I get that. But you don't think that's correlatory to the management? I can't believe you'd think that Harbaugh wouldn't be more of an issue with disciplining players than say Coughlin. I mean you'll have issues with players regardless. But the way the Niners have handled Aldon Smith alone sets a tone for the organization. You treat your stars like gods and this happens. I've seen it happen on lower scales, college, highschool, why wouldn't it be true in the pros.

49ers played a big role in sending Aldon to rehab last year when they could have waited for the nfl to levy their punishment.

They could have. But they also let him play that next game and continue practice. Again this isn't a guy's first mistake. He already had a DUI and already had other charges as well. The NFL screwed it up IMO as they should have ruled on it last year rather than put it off. But the Niners basically let him resume everything as if it was normal before realizing the backlash. Brown is a troubled case, as the bomb threat indicates (I have more than a hunch that he made a vague non-threat along the lines of "someone should blow a plane up" or something along those lines but probably not that direct cause he was pissed off, which isn't an appropriate response)

I think esp is partially right but I believe guys like Carroll and Harbaugh are going to have more issues than other coaches. They take risks with guys that are known ****heads and are more lackadaisical with rules.....see Carroll's big fine recently.

Cause they're college coaches. THat's what college coaches do. Bend the rules to get/keep the super stars.

Maybe because of twatwaffles like Chris Culliver saying "I don't do the gay guys. I don't do that," "We don't have any gay guys on the team," Culliver said. "They gotta get up outta here if they do. Can't be with that sweet stuff."

It's gonna be a story because that's hardly against the norm. Until gay people can be accepted for what they are and just let be, it will continue to be an issue. Hopefully a really good player comes out as gay, not a fringe guy like Sam.

Culliver is an idiot. But you are dealing with alpha males here and unfortunately a good portion of them are going to be homophobic. Its unfortunate but for the rest of the enlightened population its not an issue at all. I don't need to hear ESPN reporting that Michael Sam is waiting for the other players to get done in the shower so they aren't uncomfortable taking a shower with them. Thats nonsense and its just trying to stir up ratings. If Sam can play he will play in this league. His sexual orientation will have absolutely nothing to with his playing time.

What a ****ty argument that is. The reason alpha males are homophobic is because of societal standards. You think Gladiators were homophobic? I would say no since sex including homosexual sex was viewed entirely different in Ancient Rome. The homophobia we have in our society will go away and there's a very real chance that Sam coming out will be the start of something good in that direction. If he can come out and get positive attention that may convince a few people who're much better than him to come out and get it moving. Someone's orientation shouldn't matter and until we shed our stupid puritanical views.

I wish it didn't get the media attention, it shouldn't warrant it. But when you have a lot of people in this country openly and unembarrassed by their opinion that gay people shouldn't marry, an "alpha-male" locker room with some (albeit not all, or even most) homophobes, and the fact that he's the FIRST openly gay player..to try and pretend it isn't significant on some level is just ignorant. I heard no uproar when he was cut by the Rams.

Cowboys + first gay player will draw some attention. And ALL media will sensationalize because that is what they do.

Speaking on behalf of the conservative National Center for Public Policy Research, a Disney Company shareholder, Justin Danhof cited Brian Ross's coverage of the Aurora theater shooting and Rob Parker's remarks about Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III as evidence that Disney was responsible for liberal bias.

"Disney's media platforms, from ABC News to ESPN, deserve their share for the nation's skepticism -- whether its ABC News reporter Brian Ross rushing to [falsely accuse the Tea Party] for the deadly shooting and massacre at an Aurora, Colo., movie theater, or then-ESPN columnist Rob Parker saying that Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III was a, quote, 'cornball brother' who was not down with the black cause because his [fiance] is white and he is a Republican -- liberal bias pervades Disney's media outlets," Danhof, the director of the NCPPR's Free Enterprise Project, said.

"It's time to stop denying the bias and do something about it," Danhof continued. "Our company's leaders should show the intellectual honesty to admit it exists, it is a problem, and let's start working together on a solution."
