I don't think Sherman has ever read the illegal contact rule and it's like the refs are too scared of him to call it.

But that PI no call wa inexcusable. There are a lot of times where PI is borderline and it's really a judgement call. This was not one of those times. The only way Sherman's defense of that throw would have been more illegal was if Julio came down with a knife in his back.

Julio would have probably dropped the knife anyway.

I love Frank Gore, but that was too funny. Gore gets 100 on the ground and the Colts have their first 100 yay rusher in 56 games. Gore loses yardage and now sits at 99 for the game.

I really don't like to dive into these, because it happens every week it seems like. But on the last play of the game you can't let a mugging go like that uncalled. It has to be blatant to be called no doubt for that big of a play, but blatant it was. I really didn't realize how bad it was live until they showed the replay up close. DAYUM it was bad. It could have been called the entire play really as Sherman had the jersey for most of it.

They get calls, its was Seattle does.

I will say, I was VERY encouraged by this game from ATL. Could have easily gone our way, and at their place thats a pretty strong statement as they are one of the best teams in football right now.

If I can ever take encouragement from a loss, I guess this was it.

I have never understood this line of thinking regarding officiating. If it's a penalty with 14 minutes left in the first quarter it's a penalty with 14 seconds left in the game. Call the game the same regardless of the situation. If it's an infraction it needs to be flagged. Bottom line. The game situation shouldn't dictate a whistle or not. Part of the problem is the officials are intimidated by the crowd noise, the score, and et cetera and wont make a correct call like yesterday. People want to say stuff like well we don't want officiating deciding the games. Well don't commit a penalty then. It's simple logic. This is especially true on Hail Mary plays. Receivers get thrown to the ground all the time on these plays and I have only ever seen a penalty once. This was the 49ers-Saints a couple years back and Graham was called for OPI. He extended his arm and pushed away the defender pretty clearly too. Saints caught the pass and would have won the game, but it was rightfully called back.

It's probably worse in basketball too.

Falcons look really good. Not surprising that a Kyle Shanahan offense is doing really well. He's pretty much nailed it his entire career. He will probably be a hot candidate in the offseason.

Stafford has turned into a complete beast. Lions win again despite half the roster being out.

Another obvious late, key penalty by a DB against Julio Jones goes uncalled and the Falcons lose. I'm beginning to think this isn't an accident.

Saw a comparison of the stats of him and Payton Manning at the same points in their careers. Very similar. I'm not saying Stafford will have a Manning like career but he is kind of quietly really good.

    Stafford hasn't been that good.

But he's one of the rare junior QBs to come out and be successful in the NFL. He doesn't get enough yards per dropback. This year has been a highwater mark for him so maybe he's turning the corner.

Stafford is still only 28 and is really coming into his own. If you look at his numbers since Jim Bob Cooter took over he's basically an MVP player (15 games)

Yeah, but no. Today obviously not included, but he wasn't even top 5 in DYAR or DVOA going into this year.

Well that settles that then... I guess he's 8th best, and I suspect you wouldn't trade him for Brian Hoyer bc Hoyer ranks ahead of him, right?

Never said that. You said he's been at MVP levels, I'm disagreeing because to me has hasn't been. Other QBs are a factor of course. But again to me he hasn't been the tops. Stafford collects a lot of pretty stats because he throws a lot.

Now where Stafford deserves his praise, is he's doing it now without Megatron. Which honestly could be great for him. Andy Reid or Mike Holmgren (forget which one) said Favre didn't learn to become a QB until he lost Sterling Sharpe because he had to read the whole field, and I think the same thing is happening with Stafford. If he keeps this up and adds a dangerous weapon he could leap into that top tier of QB.
