    Markakis VS Heyward

Wasn't there a bet thread concerning OBP for these two? I can't find it.

Markakis is still holding his own though Heyward has been on the rise for the last couple of months. Markakis has only been below .370 two days all year. Very impressive for a guy coming off a serious injury. Heyward has had what for him is a good year too but it doesn't look like he can catch Markakis.

Defense is the only area where Jason has an edge. From an offensive standpoint, these two are essentially the same player. Nick has been an 112 OPS+ player his career. Jason is a 113 OPS+ player for his career.

Heyward is also a much better baserunner (including his speed and ability to steal bases, etc). Heyward has 18 steals to only 2 caught stealing this year and should get over 20 steals again easy.

I think the comparison is too premature. Compare them next year when you can consider money. I think when jhey is making killer money next season that we'll have the better bang for the buck

We could also compare them in Nick's final two years and probably be wishing we had Heyward instead by then if not before hand.

The final years of his contract won't matter because Hart or whoever will have traded him by then.

We just all assume Nick is going to be bad in those final two years.

Is Heyward 10-15 mil a year better, certainly a fair question.

Wins aren't based upon best bang for your buck. They are best upon accruing has much talent as possible. At some point you have to forego value spending and pay a premium to somebody.

Not that we'll do it, but you could use the extra 10-15 million to obtain a good player at another position. Then it'd be markakis and other player to compare to jhey

I'd like to have Jason back but he's more of a #2 hitter at this point and we need a #3-4 power hitter, and thats that.

And im not spending 20-25 mil on a player who isnt a middle of the order bat.

I'd rather have a used Honda Accord that I can count on than a BMW that smokes, uses oil and has an engine knock.

If you subscribe to the 7M per WAR, then yes. Heyward is at worst an equivalent hitter, who's far superior in the bases and in the field.

This is what's hard for me. Glancing at WAR leaders I don't see guys like Logan Forsythe and Kevin Kermaier worth $20m per year. I like WAR. I reference it a lot, but it seems to have some flaws as well. Cespedes is grading out as a gold Glover this year, and his defense has been a complaint the last few years.
