Another walk and RBI for Bethancourt tonight. I hope it's legit because he looks awesome.

Mallex with a two-run double in the third to kick things off for Gwinnett.

Bethancourt finished 2-4 with 2 2Bs and a BB. Now at .314/.347/.462 by my count.

    Last 13 games: .408/.473/.653; 1 HR and 9 2B in 49 AB; 6 BB/6 K.

5 of those walks have come in the last 3 games, and he hasn't struck out in his last 7. Time to call him back up and give him another shot.

Someone needs to calm me down in regards to Allard. I'm starting to get a bit red here. Right now I'm thinking he's the next Cole Hamels.

A lot of people forget that catchers typically are called up older than other positions. CB has PLENTY of time. I'm excited about his future still.

Psh. I don't think Cole Hamels has managed to strike out every batter he's ever faced.

He keeps giving us reasons to believe he might be a useful major league player. I hope we hold on to him.

A strong case can be made that our top 5 prospects are all 17 or 18 years old.

I wouldn't bet on that since they're still using Bowman to trash him in the Braves media. His latest piece does so again playing down his improvements and continuing to question his defense. I find it mostly bull**** and just an excuse for moving on from him in another direction. In other words, Bethancourt's days are numbered. But hey, AJ and his really crappy defense is likely to return according to Bowman. So we have that to look forward to again.

Well, from my perspective, the Braves front office and scouting department has given me a reason to give them the benefit of the doubt on the moves that are being made. If the Braves scouts are telling the front office that Bethancourt isn't the guy moving forward, then I have no reason to doubt them. I trust this scouting staff implicitly.

CB is as good as gone. When they were interviewing AJ live I kept wondering if they would ask about CB. My gut is telling me he's got crappy work ethic and probably not a whole lot of supporters in the vets. He needs to stay down and build back up his trade value. IMO

He's gone down and done exactly what they asked. Yeah he might get traded but he is working at it. Even studying the batters now. He should be up to see what they have in him.

It's possible he's got his head out of his arse and developed a better work ethic. He's young and some kids take longer to mature. If that's the case, I'll be rooting hard for him. I just don't believe that is the case.

I've seen him a lot. From Orlando to now. He's always had to have a foot up his butt to get going, but he does have a good work ethic. He can be lazy, but when he's in tune at each level, he's been serviceable. I can't defend his time in the big leagues. But he can and I think will improve. Just my opinion. For reference (Atlantabaseballtalk):

Benito Santiago, like Bethancourt, was hyped for having a strong throwing arm, even before he reached the big leagues. In 1987, Santiago’s first full season in the majors, he led the National League in passed balls. He led the league again in 1989 and again in 1993. He allowed 9 passed balls in 1988, 6 in 1990, and 8 in 1991. Oddly enough he didn’t allow any in 1992 but his total jumped to a league-leading 23 in 1993 (though he was with the Marlins and had to catch knuckleballer Charlie Hough in that season). But even if we don’t count 1993, Santiago had 48 in his first 426 games.

Johnny Bench led the league in 1968, his first full season in the majors. In 1969 he gave up 14 and in 1970 he gave up 9.

Ivan Rodriguez came to the majors in 1991 and played in 88 games. He allowed 8 passed balls. In 1992 he allowed 10. In 1993 he allowed 14. He allowed 8 or more passed balls in 7 seasons over the course of his career.

Yadier Molina led the league with 8 passed balls his first full season in 2005. He had 7 in 2006 and 7 in 2007. In 2010 he also had 7 and finished 3rd in the league.

Not saying he will be any of those, but he has allowed 1 passed ball with an error since being down (as of a few weeks ago). That's not the definition of someone who hasn't worked at it.

I would love it if he's found a new gear and figured out he cannot get by on talent alone. I did read about him leading the pitchers' meetings, and he seems like he's trying more. So we'll see.
