First and third nobody out to first and third two out. Joe Simpson just said the Braves have scored the fewest runs in the major leagues since the All Star Game. No great surprise.

I doubt Nick Swisher lasts past this off-season with us, probably gets released at some point. Maybin maybe gets traded and Bourn probably stays next year to mentor Mallex Smith. Bourn could also platoon with Perez in CF next year till Smith is ready.

If Bourn can hit with any consistency, even at age 32 he's the leadoff hitter we seem to rarely have. With Maybin in CF and Bourn in LF, defensively we'd have a pretty good outfield, Markakis' limitations notwithstanding. As you said, it's more likely that we won't have both of them going into next year.

Swisher couldn't look more lost right now at the plate.

Damn, good call by the umpire. I thought he was safe in real time.

In football that might've been an incomplete pass. While the ball did disappear into his glove he didn't seem to have control of it.

I still believe in Terdo's bat. Guy needs to get 400+ AB's.

Agreed. We need to find out of he's a legitimate major leaguer or the quintessential 4A player.

I guess the difference is that in baseball, if it's a transfer play, you only have to have "control" for the barest fraction of a second.

I guess. But he was not ready for the ball to come shooting out of his glove like that. I think that was more of accidental in and out of the glove than it was a true transfer.

In reality, absolutely. However, umpires have been calling the "transfer play" for so long that they'd have to renege on a century of precedent to call it any other way now.
