Yeah...the Braves are 22-15 (.595) against the teams with winning percetages of .500 or better. Not too shabby...even better against the NL only at 20-10 (.667). They've actually played much better against the better teams than the under .500 teams in the NL.

I think a team with one of the worst offenses in the league would trade some defense for offense but that's just me. Morse's overall numbers are down because he hits in Safeco. He has a wrc+ of 105 which I think the Nats would take. Likely would rise if he played in a park more conducive to homers.

Well wouldn't the perfect time have technically been when he was pitching like a stud?

Because you want to keep a stud pitcher.

yeah but it was very short-lived, and it's not like he was AMAZING but it looked like he could have been, so the "perfect time" to me is still technically when his value is highest.

But you don't have a crsytal ball and hindsight is always 20-20. Braves thought they had an ace and gave time to see if he would get back to that level. When they realized it wasn't happening they traded him before his value was nil which is what his value is now.

Sad that both Hansen and Jurrjens were pitching like aces a couple years ago. Then both careers derailed at the All-Star Break. Fickle gods of baseball.

Jurrjens was a paper tiger. A guy who massively out performed his peripherals and should have been dealt if value was the primary concern. That said winning was the primary concern so he was kept. Hanson's shoulder got him. He was well on his way to being an ace level pitcher until injuries set him aside. Now he's more of a 5.

JJ was a pitching version of CJ. Even when a player out-performs peripherals for several seasons, it is wise to maintain some skepticism.

I had those 2 marked down as All Stars and our aces for years to come. Sad.

Who is to say we didn't shop JJ and Medlen at the top of their value? I doubt JJ b/c it was mid season, but I don't think he was untouchable in many offseasons. I bet someone could have had Medlen last offseason.

You'd just have to pay a ton. If the Rangers would have give Profar for Medlen or the Royals wanted to do Myers for Medlen I bet we would. We'd have kept Prado and maybe gone after Loshe.

Other teams knew Medlen wasn't that good too.

Just like nobody offered a big trade for Constanza when he came up and hit 350 for a couple of weeks that one year.

There was no reason to trade Medlen.

We had little rotation depth especically since Beachy wasn't due back until midseason.

If a team blows you away, sure but you don't make a trade just to make a trade for the hell of it.

They were stealing bases on him like taking candy from a baby. They stole 5 bases on him including third twice. He ended up lasting less than 5 innings and giving up 5 earned runs.

That said, it's a shame what injuries have did to him. When I was watching him coming up he reminded me of Smoltz a bit. But that was then and this is now. Thankfully we were still able to get Walden for him after last year.

In his last 13 starts for the Braves last year Hanson was just as bad.
