Go to those same starts and give the hits allowed and walks.

    Here's another point to make..

Williams Perez has induced 11 (now 12) GIDP in 68.1 IP

The MLB leader Kyle Gibson has induced 24 GIDP in 141.2 IP

If you say Williams Perez throws those same 141.2 IP and keeps his same pace, he would total 24.5. So if you think Perez can be the best starter in baseball at inducing double plays (which means guys are on base more times than not) then yeah he can be. I don't think he can remain this good (lucky is better choice of words) at getting double plays therefore allowing more runs.

I would also bet (haven't looked to see, and on my phone makes it hard to) that Perez has a strand rate % among the league leaders, and that is a category that I hate to have guys towards the top.

Oh they are very important but if I recall he was extremely lucky and stranded tons of runners, which I don't think he can continue to do.

Then he won't be a starter. While he is limiting runners from scoring though, I think he should keep starting unless we upgrade. Oh and Williams pitching to contact on ground is a good thing when you have the best SS in the game

    That was my original point.

It sure is but are the opposing hitters going to always hit it to Andrelton or on the ground for that matter? If you continue to have to pitch with guys on base, your going to give up runs. My college pitching coach had a saying "Homers before walks"

Perez has been pretty bad. 4.34 ERA, 4.90 FIP, 5.11 xFIP. He's striking out only 5.5 per 9 and walking 4.5 per 9. I'm not sure that is even a 5th starter level.

I don't know why you people can't admit that Perez has been huge.

He had a huge roll, er, role to fill, but he has really come up big and thrown his weight around.

As is Perez can be a decent option as a #5 starter while making league min. After that it would probablly be good to cut bait with him. He has a serious issue walking people and doesn't strike out enough to make up for it. However for a #5 starter that makes the league min that does have value. Just have to know when to move on.

I just know that in all but 1 of his starts, Perez has given us a shot at winning. Will his walking and not striking out guys end up biting him? Probably, but until they do, I have no problem saying he's been solid. I'm not saying he's a lock as a starter. I just said he's been solid for a rookie. If we have to win 1 game with a rookie starter, I'd pick Perez over folty and wisler any day of the week THIS year

Well all 3 have been pretty bad so it's not exactly a glowing recommendation.
