Sorry you feel that way about Mississippi. I realize my home state has issues, but I think you're wrong in your judgement of it. All the cursing and childish responses really make your arguments look foolish though. What do I know though? I'm just an ignorant, racist man from Mississippi. Carry on...
they say the 1st step is realizing you have a problem
glad we could get there today for that problem
calling it a ****hole isn't really childish, it's just my adult feelings on the overall issue of the state but i will visit again sometime on a trip to New Orleans and see a couple places i want to see and eat at etc and see if it might change my mind. in case you are wondering, New Delhi and Singapore are ****holes in my opinion as well off the top of my head if that either helps or hurts ya, not sure

Singapore is a **** hole? I've never heard anybody say that before. New Delhi is a different story...

I lived in Meridian for almost 30 years, home to Steve Forbert and Sela Ward, and only recall a quiet, friendly town that could've been in most any state. But it was a railroad hub back in the day and likely had a steady inflow of new faces all through the 1900's. Growing up there felt a world apart from the kinds of towns Faulkner wrote about. Then came Jimmie Rogers and later Peavy Electronics, which keeps scores of hippie guitar players gainfully employed. Not to say that its views on race are different, but Meridian is a pretty cool town.
But right up the road is Philadelphia, where the 3 civil rights workers were murdered for nothing more than helping people exercise their hard earned and constitutional right to vote.
My hometown is Philadelphia haha
The civil rights murders happened before I was even born, but it's certainly still a black eye for my hometown. I am proud to say that after the shameful cover up in the '60s that we convicted Edgar Ray killen 40 years later. I hate that it took that long and that killen enjoyed most his life free, but I am proud those 3 young men are somewhat avenged.

And now there's a casino, hotel and golf course on the site with heaters in the tee grounds to dry off the morning dew. How's that for progress. Also home of Marty Stuart! I drove through there on HWY 19 a couple hundred times in my college days. Beautiful stretch of highway, just watch out for the dogs and deer.
Did you watch Mississippi Burning at a theater in Philadelphia? Always wondered if they showed it in town.

I went to university with a boy from Belzoni, MS. and he told me everybody in town knew who killed Rev. George Lee but no one was ever charged. Rev. Lee was killed in 1955 and was one of the first civil rights assassinations, though not as well known as the one's that came afterward, like Emmit Till, Medgar Evers, etc.
Doing a quick count from this page, over 50 civil rights related murders in MS from 1955-70 with only a couple convictions.
a man made place that seemed like a mix of gatlinburg,tn, panama city beach and vegas without the gambling and spring break craziness feel etc
some good food but one of the few places i really never care to go back to
might be that there is so much realness in southeast asia, singapore is just **** imo.
it's safe and "western" etc etc etc but overall i am not a fan
love KL. seriously know a food stand (hope it's still there) that i could direct you (friend went recently and it was still there) to and it is one of my favorite meals ever.

Don't you feel that saying that ironically makes you just as guilt of prejudice and stereotyping? Yes, the state has some history and a well known reputation, but to assume that the people there are any different than people anywhere else is naive.
From what I've read and seen, New York City's history has been as racist as any.
A movie is coming out soon that may give folks like me something to feel good about Mississippi for. The book sure did.
