Yep. That's another reason in addition to the colossal upheaval the three state solution would have caused the Biden plan didn't gain traction. Turkey now is still a wild-card in all this. Their formerly strong Nationalistic spirit has been weakened immensely by an ever more popular jihadi mindset (or at least folks cozy with jihadists like ISIS).

The three-state solution is a fun little academic exercise to play around with, but I can't think of an example more out of tune with Middle Eastern realities (especially in a modern, or even semi-modern, context).

Western hubris at its very finest.

With the possible exception of lumping 3 groups of people, all of whom historically hate each others' guts, into one nation that's supposed to unite and govern themselves. What kind of hooch must they have had at those post WWI treaty conferences?

So using countries as pawns is reacting to geopolitical reality, but doing anything not out of pure self interest is "western hubris"?

It is. Smacks of colonialism and Western diplomats drawing lines in the desert. As does the rest of of the enterprise, no?

Is it more hubristic than anything else that's gone on there? More than trying to install Chalabi, the neocon pet? More than the suggestions to restore the Hashemite monarchy? Really, hubris has been the watchword of the entire thing.
