Minors thread 810: Suddenly, Rome's rotation is loaded with aces

This is not a rehab start. Sean Gilmartin has been assigned to the Class A Rome Braves and is starting for that club today. Gilmartin is coming off two overpowering rehab starts in the GCL and seems well past his shoulder tendinitis.

All of a sudden, the Rome starting rotation has become a focal point of scouts, fans and this board.

Friiday night, Wes Parsons followed up a complete game two-hitter with seven innings of shutout ball to quickly leave his free agent status behind.

Looking ahead, Frank Lafreniere (5-11) is still expected to stat Sunday, but going forward would seem to indicate that top prospects Mauricio Cabera, Lucas Sims and Jeremy Hursh would complete the rotation. But if you're thinking playoff run -- forget it. Rome (22-26 for the second half) is eight games out of the South Division lead and face a magic number of 15 losses and Lexington wins for elimination.
    ------------------
Among roster moves in the system, Jose Constanza has been returned to Gwinnett to make room for the eager-to-go Jordan Schafer. Schafer was only 2-for-24 in his rehab. ... Bicep tendinitis has landed Lynchburg catcher Shawn McGill on fhe DL, so Chase Anselment has moved up from Rome to fill in. Lynchburg pitcher Ryan Weber, who was having a terrific season, has gone to the Gulf Coast for a rehab assignment.

Infieler Ronald Luna has returned to Rome after a stint in Danville. ... Matt Kimbrel, who has been hit harder than hard in Danville, has been returned to the GCL.

Obispo had three more strikeouts in the 9th tonight. That's 8 strikeouts in his last three innings/games (including two saves). Laird had a throwing error and passed ball against him tonight.

Anthony Waszak is a 4-year college guy, so he's ahead of the game in the Appalachian League, but that aside, he's had a really strong season. Look at the K/BB and GO/AO! 0.77 WHIP is dealing.
