    Your favorite song.

Not necessarily the best song, but just your personal favorite song. I have a few in contention. I love Radiohead's "Let Down" and Pearl Jam's "Black" but the one song I always come back to and think damn that's a great song is the Pumpkin's Mayonaise. I mean the opening chords written by Iha were amazing, the lyrics were surprisingly perfect, the solo was spot on, the production was perfect and the overall the feel of the song is amazing. It's just an incredible song.

"Gentle On My Mind" has been my favorite tune for over 40 yrs. Others have moved into the no 1 spot for a while, The Allman Brs "Statesboro Blues, Django's "I'll See You In My Dreams", and for the last few years The Del McCoury Band's "Vincent Black Lightning 1952", but this is the one that never goes away. I can hear it in my head anytime. Why is that?

Hard to pick a favorite. Really depends on my mood. But in general, my go to tunes have pretty much always been

The House of the Rising Sun
    Hotel California
    Folsom Prison Blues

I don't have a favorite song, I have rotating songs depending on my mood.

If I was to pick songs that I pretty much never skip when they come on shuffle(limiting one per artist) , they would be

Born to Run - The Boss
    Black - Pearl Jam
Say Hello 2 Heaven - Temple of the Dog
Rock and Roll - Led Zeppelin (though to be honest, I skip none of the short Zeppelin songs, I'll sometimes skip some of the long ones because I don't want to invest 7 or 8 minutes)
    Spirit of Radio - Rush
    The Weight - The Band
    Would? - Alice in Chains
    Little WIng - Jimi Hendrix
Texas Flood - Stevie Ray Vaughn
Ain't Talkin' 'bout Love - Van Halen
Turn the Page - Bob Seger
Tangled up in Blue - Bob Dylan
    Humpty Dance - Digital Underground
    Stan - Eminem
Sweet Child 'o Mine - GNR
    The Trooper - Iron Maiden
    Cocaine Blues - Johnny Cash
    Ace of Spades - Motorhead
    Cinnamon Girl - Neil Young
    B.O.B. - Outkast
Dock of the Bay - Otis Redding
Where is my Mind - THe Pixies
Crazy Little Thing Called Love - Queen
    Bulls on Parade - Rage
    Under the Bridge -RHCP
    Spoonman - Soundgarden
    Goodbye Stranger - Supertramp
The Boys are Back in Town - THin Lizzy
Seven Nation Army - White Stripes

I'm sure I'm forgetting plenty that I don't pretty much ever skip over. I guess songs I can hear hundreds of times withotu being tired of them would classify as favorite to me.

I need an explanation and hopefully videos on why it's you're favorite. I understood why runnin gave his pick.

Just terrific melodies and the lyrics are exceptional as well.

"I shot a man in Reno, just to watch him die" gives me goosebumps every time I hear it.

"Big River" is my favorite Johnny Cash song. I really like this acoustic guitar version by Dan Crary, though obviously he's no Johnny Cash.

"I taught the weeping willow how to cry, cry, cry and I taught the clouds how to cover up a clear blue sky"
"...she raised a few eyebrows and then she went on down alone"

I really can't pinpoint a true top 3. Music to me is experiential not calculable. If I had to pinpoint songs that I've liked the longest from that list it would probably be Born to RUn, Black and Under the Bridge. But liking them for longer doesn't per se make them better.

I just thought of another though, War Pigs - Black Sabbath.

Hotel California might be the best song of the 1970's. No one has melodies like the Eagles. Born to Run? Really Zito. So 1980s. Not a fan of the boss but that is worst time period. Maybe you could hum us a few bars of I'm on Fire. Is this a Jersey Bias?

Born to Run came out mid 70s, how can it be so 80s?

Get your facts straight. And the Eagles are a very catchy band, who held back an extremely talented musician and front man (Joe Walsh)

Umm mine is a Catholic hymn. So not to disrespect individuals on here I have to eschew the decision to post it.

If you want pop/rap or anything like that......too hard to choose, it would be old school, maybe 60's or 70's because I really don't like music from the 80's/90's and 2000's.

WHAT??? As long as you really like it is all that matters. Religion has inspired many a good tune.

For a guy who brags a lot about how big and tough he is, you're surprisingly unwilling to take a stand on anything.

Oh, I do take a stand and about 90 percent of the peeps hate it.

I can't nor ever will like Democrats, that is a stand. I don't like Republicans but I can tolerate some of their anti-greed ideas like Religion, Abortion, Gun rights. Money, fvck them but at least I have a chance to make my own without begging the Dummicrats for a handout like a lot of my kind.

I can't stand and despise the con artist in charge as president, that is a stand.

I can't stand idiot people saying that abortion is cool ( like Zito and Goldfly, oh I made a mistake, I will just kill it), but they never think about getting their snatch sewn up, keep their dick in their pants or don't open your damn legs, that is a stand. They made stupid choices and a baby has to die because of it.

So what are you barking about? My stands is anti-liberal on the hard things like that. I can't stand any of the Dummicrats that were paraded out their last night especially Queen Bitch Billary and Christopher Lloyd playing Col Sanders and that is a stand.

    So....

Of the list I've seen tonight, actually Zito said one song I really like (Goodbye Stranger) and the group I like as well. I am a Styx person so Angry Young Man I can play all day, also Take the Long Way Home by Supertramp. Too many Funkadelic/Parliament music to choose from. I love Curtis Mayfield as well. I love techno rave like Depeche Mode/Enigma. Too many to choose from.

This is something that is too hard to even fathom on what the best song is.

I've got favorite hymns - but other than those it seems my favorite is always changing.

Really liking this Tom Waits song being sung though by MP Jones:

I love Tom Waits. Currently, "Shiver Me Timbers" is the one I have to hear everyday. I'm a sucker for any song about the sea and I love the Martin Eden reference.

"All the Things You Are" by Kern/Hammerstein is my absolute favorite jazz tune and probably one of the top 5 tunes in the whole jazz/rock/pop canon. It's a truly beautiful melody with timeless lyrics that seamlessly meanders through 5 different key changes. It can be a real beast to play, especially to solo over, but it you can tame this tune . . .

Here's youtubist SayakaAllesandro's version. Anyone who can both play and sing this song is bonafide, imo.

If you like the melody, be sure to check out instrumental versions by the likes of Charlie Parker, Grant Green, Stochelo Rosenberg (gypsy jazz gtr), etc.

This Mike Roe song is an all-time favorite - beautifully written, achingly sad.

And a different house concert version:
