Well I do think it will shown in Ep 8 that she had previous training in the force. Also you don't need to be a jedi/force user to use a lightsaber and she had shown the ability to take care of herself with that staff. And Kylo was hurt pretty badly. Chewys crossbow was shown several times (for this reason) to have blown **** up and he took it straight to the stomach.

It's "only" about 200 million behind it with months of replays left in it and pretty much no blockbuster competition until Deadpool comes out, which will be R Rated. Everything in January will be art house competition but really not much in terms of big time blockbusters so it should be selling well for at least a month more.
Yeah it's 2nd weekend is like 15th all-time for weekends and far and away the best for a second weekend. Would of been even higher if nor for the ****ty weather in the south.

Saw it and liked it. Pretty solid casting and the story and direction were darn near perfect. I like Adam Driver as an actor, but I don't know if he was the right choice for Kylo Ren. Daisy Ridley as Rey is about as good as it gets. I've always liked Oscar Isaac's work and I wonder where his storyline goes.

Best part of it was no cheapening of the story for kiddies by introducing something like Ewoks or Jar Jar Binks.

Theory is that she was spared by Kylo in the Knights of Ren assault on the Jedis. So she was probably taught by Luke but just forgot it over time. As well as potential familial ties as well. A lot more should be revealed in the next movie.

I can't see her being Han and Leia's daughter, it would be too convenient to have that again. Could be wrong of course, just personally can't see them going that route. The more I think about it though, the more I think she'll just be a jedi, and Leia helped smuggle her away. She was probably an orphan or something and Luke took her in. I'm not sure. Hopefully him training her will reveal more.

I'm only as far as Return of the Jedi but the actual politics and aims of the Rebels' cause seems to be very vague. I know it's Good vs Evil and who the 'good' and 'bad' guys are supposed to be is clearly pointed out but the whole story is very flimsy to me.

It bothers me that the heroes of these epic stories always seem to be so young and unbelievable. I'm sure that's to increase audience empathy but it also exposes the seams, so to speak and makes the story more fairytale-ish.

Runnin, it's explained that a new Republic/Senate was formed after ROTJ. Then the Rise of the First Order came when the governors and generals who refused to believe Palpatine died continued their tyranny. Now the Resistance is a sub-army that had secret backing from the Republic that was blown up by the Starkiller or Death Star Planet.

It wasn't like the Rebels who had no government backing just a militia. The Resistance was an unofficial Anti-First Order army and the First Order knew this that's why they took out the Republic and the Resistance says "how can we fight them without the ships of the Galactic Republic"?

Thanks. Sounds like the writers also thought the story needed more plot depth.

The movie was lacking plot depth, or rather newer ideas.

The story outline of TFA is the identical outline of A New Hope. I think they are going with some kind of history repeats itself idea.

It feels silly to criticize such a successful movie but rewatching V and VI didn't put me in a mood to see any of the others. And I'm taking some kids to see the new one tomorrow morning, in 4D.

Lucas always said the trilogies mimicked each other like poetry.

So it's right, but the fact they basically copy and pasted things from past SW movies and made them major plot elements in this one... eh. Don't get me wrong loved the movie, paid to watch it 3 times now. Just after each viewing I'm left feeling it was too safe, no risks taken.

And trust me Runnin, The Phantom Menace made a billion and it's the most heavily scrutinized or bad mouthed Star Wars film of any.

At least that one had real actors in it, unlike the first three, except for Darth Vader's voice.

I felt it was the best way to go about it. You safely reintroduce Star Wars to everyone while connecting it to the OT. You also introduce all of the new cast that take Star Wars into the next generation of fans. This movie had to work. And while they did play it safe, playing it safe made sure that it would work.

IDK. It's Disney, so they plan on milking this franchise for another 10 movies like they are MCU.

    Neeson was good as Qui-Gon.
McGregor was easily the best part of the prequels as Obi-Wan.
And Dooku wasn't bad, they just didn't have much filler for Christopher Lee.
And CGI Yoda was also really good.
    And of course Chancellor Palpatine.

Right. Which is why this movie had to be good. If it was like the prequels then people would turned on the franchise. If Ironman sucked the MCU would of stopped before it even started.

CGI Yoda sucked. THe fight scenes with him were ridiculous. Why couldn't he and Palpatine just have an epic force battle? Why did either of them need lightsabers?

I agree on Neeson and McGregor though. They were solid. Dooku was a waste in the films. He was bad ass in the Clone Wars TV show though. It really fleshed him out.
