I've been on board with most of what the Johns have done, really only raised an eyebrow at the Olivera deal.

But at first glance this one stinks.

The only thing I will say is I hope the team is right about Albies and Newcomb. If they hit on both players this trade will be good.

Newcomb, Angels' top pitching prospect, had 2.38 ERA in 27 starts at 3 levels in '15, w/ 168 K with 76 walks in 136 IP. Finished in Double-A

I can't help but laugh at this point. It's like we wanna suck. Anybody know what the 2017 draft class looks like? Cause we'll have a super high pick. I don't even care what they do with the extra money at this point bc it won't matter any.

Can't wait to see how DOB and co. spin this.

I imagine something like, "Simmons' bat wasn't developing. All glove, no hit SS are a dime a dozen."

So we traded a 4 WAR SS for a 2 WAR SS and two top prospects. And we saved tens of millions of dollars. Hart is a genious fellas.

I'm not a fan of this deal, but we also receive C Jose Briceno... at least he's got the potential of being an everyday C. (FYI- Kiley McDaniel is a huge fan of Briceno... likely not a coincidence).

Didn't Schuerholtz promise us we were "absolutely not going to have a 95 loss season again?" We are going for the full trifecta of crappy hitting, crappy defense and crappy pitching in '16. Unless Olivera is amazing I don't see how we lose less than 100.

The Angels also get Jose Briceno...not sure why the Braves would add another player on top of the deal, but whatever...maybe Newcomb will turn out to be awesome, but I just don't see him getting enough value to make this deal anywhere near worth it.

He's averaged 4.7 bWAR per year in the first 3 seasons of his career. Even going by the last two he was at 3.65. That's a 20 million dollar player in this market. All this tells me is the Braves don't value defense the way the SABR community does.

Unless Newcomb becomes an ace, I don't really care. We have a **** ton of arms. We have traded 4 high value position players, Gattis, Justin, Jason, and Simmons and have gotten back few positional prospects. Only Mallex Smith and Rio Ruiz were pretty much all we got back both have issues and only Rio has a high ceiling.

Now we get back 0 position prospects or young position players for Simmons. It's juts terrible

Sadly, Briceno's going the other way.

Guess you've figured out by now that the Braves are TRADING Briceno, .183 average and all, in the deal.

It's OK, Ramadon. I don't think our FO realized it either.
