    2015 WINTER MEETINGS THREAD

Any and all stories leading up to and about the 2015 Winter Baseball Meetings in Nashville should go here.

Starting off with a story fron Rant sports by a Brad Faber.

5 Teams who will be sellers at the Winter Meetings

    5. COLORADO ROCKIES

With their last winning season coming back in 2010, the Colorado Rockies seemed to finally signal that they are in rebuilding mode with the trade of Troy Tulowitzki over the summer. The Rockies have a couple of really solid players they may be wise to build around in DJ LeMahieu and slugger Nolan Arenado, but it would hardly be shocking if they move a big piece like Carlos Gonzalez or perhaps Charlie Blackmon if they can receive pitching in exchange.

    4, ATLANTA BRAVES

After trading big names such as Justin Upton, Jason Heyward, Evan Gattis and Kimbrel before the start of last season, it appears that the Atlanta Braves may be following a similar path this offseason. The Braves have already traded Simmons, and there has been some speculation about Freddie Freeman as well. A new report from Bob Nightengale of USA TODAY Sports now suggests that the Braves won't be moving the All-Star first baseman, but who knows, maybe a team could still offer them an extremely tempting package of talent.

    3. SAN DIEGO PADRES

After making so much noise last offseason by acquiring players such as Matt Kemp, Wil Myers, Justin Upton, Will Middlebrooks, Derek Norris, James Shields and Kimbrel, the Padres stumbled all the way to a fourth-place finish in 2015. It now appears that the Padres may have to go back to the drawing board, and they have already moved Kimbrel. It wouldn't be shocking if someone like Shields happens to be next.

    2. MIAMI MARLINS

With Dan Jennings now out as GM and manager and Don Mattingly taking over as skipper, it would suffice to say that the Miami Marlins have already begun the process of shaking things up. There has already been some speculation surrounding Jose Fernandez, the Fish's star right-handed pitcher, and one could also see them moving someone like outfielder Marcell Ozuna.

    1. CINCINNATI REDS

After already receiving a solid trio of pitching prospects in exchange for Johnny Cueto last summer, it wouldn't be shocking to see the Cincinnati Reds stock up on even more prospects this winter. The Reds have valuable pieces such as Jay Bruce, Todd Frazier and closer Aroldis Chapman, and they may be wise to cash in on them in order to build for the future.

We certainly match up with a few of those teams. I would never rule out the Marlins in any personnel flip because they just don't give a rats rear end who they deal with. The Rockies are a great match though.

SD doesn't have much left we would be interested in right?

I'd take James Shields or Matt Kemp off their hands if they'd take Swisher in return.

    Really?

Miller, Teheran, Markakis, potentially even Freeman...not to mention all the prospects.

Teheran has zero value. The other guys sure. No reason to be sellers though. They are going to be awful with these players or not.

Oh good gosh, man. I get that it's your shtick to down everything the organization does, but the idea that Teheran has no value is laughable.

And if we're going to be awful with or without these players, that is exactly the reason we should be sellers.

I'm not sure if you have any credibility left, but if you do, you're losing the rest of it.

WHAT? Seriously. A cost-effective number two type guy with a solid repertoire that killed it in the second half last year isn't worth anything? I'm sure his career 3.44 ERA isn't overlooked either.

The dude was terrible last season. Trading him now while his value is low isn't a smart thing to do. Sure he has value if you want 75 cents on the dollar then you trade him.

His first half was terrible. I'm not even sure a 4.04 ERA should be considered terrible. But, I would his value is anything but low. Nonetheless, it all depends on return. We don't have to trade him anyways. I suggest trading Shelby first.

I think Julio was just screwing around in the first half since we conceded the season months before the season started. Why not work on a new pitch?

Overall he was bad last season. His numbers are trending in the wrong direction each season. If you want those types of numbers from your number 2 starter he better be getting paid less than what he's making.

His 2014 was better than his 2013. Also, he will make $3.3 million next year.

    Try again.

i can't tell if you're serious...ok, I guess you are. Your Thoughts are yours, but the second half as the others have stated was far from terrible. He definitely has value and its not bad value.

It would be unwise to trade Teheran now. There are many FA options, and his stock is a bit low after a disappointing season. Trading him now would be selling low.

Selling Miller now would be selling high, but the myriad FA options also makes it unwise to trade him. I would be looking to extend him and buy out 1-2 of his FA years. He will likely make around $25m over his 3 arb years, so something like 4/40 or 5/55 would make sense. Maybe 3/25 with an option for $15m and a $2m buyout.

Part of the reason Coppy claims they traded Simmons was due to the high demand and low supply of the SS market. Hopefully he uses the same type of logical regarding the pitching market and realizes this is not the time to deal either Miller or Teheran.
