Heyward to Cubs for less than $200M

I have to say, kinda wish the Braves had signed him to that type of contract. Looks like he turned down a larger deal from the Nats.

Depends on the years but it looks like he took less to not go to the Nats. I'm guessing 8/195?

How many years....I wonder if he was looking for a shorter deal so he could cash in again before 30. We see the official soon.

This just starts the rumor mill again with the Cubs and the Braves.....Could we get Soler without giving up Tehran? Could some of our prospects not named Newcombe or Sims get it done in a package? Could Inciarte be in the package? Do they like Mallex?

I would have LOVED to get what we got for Heyward and then resigned Heyward. Heyward having a big conference about how all the enmity was a ruse to throw ppl off and he was planning to go back to the Braves all along. But it's not the world in which we live.

I think Heyward is going to play CF, and the Cubs were only interested in Inciarte as a backup plan to Heyward. The Cubs are pretty much done making moves I would imagine.

If I were the Cubs I would look to trade Schwarber to an AL team for a young pitcher. Schwarber is a lot like Gattis, only WAY better, and shouldn't really be playing defense.

I know...Braves should have a shot at Soler....

I know I'm crazy but do the Cubs just laugh off Inciarte + Blair + Markakis for Soler? Cubs have the 3 starters they'll use in the playoffs. They need someone cheap to chew up innings during the season. Blair can do that. They have the money to offset Markakis. Inciarte is a league avg hitter with elite defense up the middle.

If I'm the braves I only move Inciarte if I am confident that Mallex can provide league avg offense and close to elite defense in CF this year.

One positive is reportedly the Nationals offered more money but Heyward decided he'd rather play for the Cubs.

I remember Heyward having some good games in Chicago as a Braves, i'm sure he will do well in that stadium...

On another note, all of St.Louis is on suicide watch after from the sounds of it

That's a good looking offense. And Heyward won't be asked to carry the load, so he should thrive. Such a young, talented, and exciting roster. This is where the Braves hope to get in the coming years.

Nah I'd much rather have all the pieces we've turned Heyward into. But great move for cubs

You could have had both....theoretically. Imagine if we signed him today......warm feelings for everyone.

Very relieved he didn't sign with the Nats. Even of he tanked it would be painfull. I still think we should have pulled a Kenny Lofton and signed him as a free agent.

If this helps us get Soler, it would add just a little extra to the Heyward trade. Would be nice.

It was the right move to trade him
