You can go a long way in this crazy, crazy world successfully calling one minor league contract 10 years ago.

Wouldn't be surprised if he made the team. Doesn't have a ton of elite competition for left handed reliever spots.

Kohl, McKirahan, Marksberry, the Rule 5 pick with the strange name, Banuelos if not used as a starter. Is that it?

Yeah he does. Off the top of my head the only other current LH relievers on the roster (or NR invitees) are:

    1. Ian Krol
    2. Matt Marksberry
    3. Evan Rutckyj (will be required to be on 25-man roster)
    4. Andrew McKirahan (no way we see I'm IMO)
    5. Manny Banuelos (if he isn't in the rotation)

I believe so. Not a lot of MLB success on that list. I think if Banuelos is in the pen it's more of a long relief role. I don't know if he has any options left. If he does then I think it's either the rotation or AAA for him.

The biggest thing that might be working against Torres is whether the Braves have to keep guys on the 25 man to keep them. The Rule 5 guy from the Yankees of course has to stay on the roster or be offered back. McKirahan was a Rule 5 pick last year and I think he was on the roster long enough even with the suspension so he probably can go to AAA. No idea if Krol has any option years left.

I can't see the Braves carrying more than two of the lefties from that list. If they want to keep the Rule 5 guy that means you have Torres, Krol, McKirahan, and Marksberry competing for one spot. I think Torres is probably the best bet out of that group to be successful. If the rest can go to AAA without having to pass through waivers then I think Torres likely gets the job.

He has competition in numbers but none of those guys have had major league success. He has competition, just not elite competition. It's not like he's having to fight a healthy Paco Rodriguez.

I think it is an artifact of a .325 BABIP against lefties in 2015 and .152 against righties, both small samples.

His career numbers show better FIP and xFIP against lefties, though not by a large margin.

His walk rate is what has been keeping him bouncing around between the majors and AAA.

The B games are going to be very interesting this coming spring. Lots and lots of candidates to fill out the last couple of bullpen slots.

As per Torres' splits, I was looking more at the K/BB (which is a subpar < 2 for both LHH and RHH), but actually a little worse for LHH. Hard to know what's going on there.

Is this the former Mets reliever from the last few seasons?

The Braves also signed Kyle Kendrick to a minor league contract, which I find slightly less exciting.

I realize that now. I thought this was a good pitcher who was named Torres. Got him confused with Carlos.
