Car-free cities make a lot of sense, but not because "terrorism".

So let the record show that I considered upvoting this; but, while I did not, I wouldn't explicitly downvote it, either.

With a good subway system or at least a couple different ways of public transportation, including rentable bicycles, you don't really need cars, or not without special permits. It's not a bad idea at all to consider for big city centers.

My initial thought as well. London is one city that comes to mind where I could see it happening, atleast on some level. They already employ a (steep) “congestion charge” for vehicles entering major metropolitan zones and certainly have the robust public transportation infrastructure (inclusive of an extensive bike share program) in place to make the concept plausible. Tokyo is another city that has the infrastructure and, beyond London, the civic obedience to pull it off. Amsterdam. Maybe central parts of Berlin, Paris. I can’t imagine it happening anywhere in the US. Perhaps New York, once it addresses its major transit issues.

Copenhagen already has the requisite excess of bikes, but not the light-rail.

My church has several ministries led by volunteers from the church and funded by donations directly to the ministry from individual members of the church. I have never heard any of the dozens of speakers ask for money before they asked for prayers and volunteers. We have people paying their own way to volunteer at disaster sites, at third world schools and food banks, and on week long community improvement trips to poor nations abroad. Members take meals to kids at home during the summer break, send thousands of Christmas presents all across the world, run local food banks, pay for heating and housing for local people in need, and repair roofs and houses or build wheelchair ramps for those who are poor, elderly, or disabled.

I just can't understand why so many people are so cynical about churches.

For one thing, they are a scam based on lies, used create sociopolitical swathes of society in order to consolidate power and control people.
