He just made his point poorly. He’s saying that bands aren’t prevalent in popular music right now, and he’s right. I’m struggling to think of many bands that weren’t already popular 10 years ago that you can consistently hear on the radio. They still exist, and they still make good music, but they’ve fallen in popularity.

I mean by that point were they? There were what 10 bands rotating through popularity.
Anyway, his logic is bad, and he should feel bad. Granted 2020 kind of shot the market on new material, but there's still lots of bands out there doing ****. And there's bands still sticking around and rocking like Foos, etc.
Though I will say, I think that the flaw to rock's current popularity is the rise of streaming services. And what that means to back catalogues. Pop is all about contemporary.
