    Swisher Released

Don't know if this deserves its own thread, but the Swish is swished away.

This was a strong possibility from the moment we traded for him. I'm sure they tried to trade him, but teams knew they could wait until he was released.

His play in the field was brutal this spring. A team in the DH league might take a chance on him.

Does this mean Francoeur heads north? I'm guessing the Braves will be scouring the waiver wire for a LH bench bat. As nsacpi pointed out in another thread, the Bourn/Bonifacio tandem won't get it done.

I wish a few months back we had held on to Joey T. He would be a good bench bat as a switch hitter without pronounced splits. He still had an option left. But we needed room on the 40 man. There were others we should have released instead--Swisher and Burawa to name a couple. Todd Cunningham was also let go in a questionable move. I would rather have him than Bourn or Bonifacio as a backup outfielder who can play center.

    KJ doesn't qualify?
Has there EVER been a statement and question a certain someone should absolutely never have made and asked publicly more than...

Kinda pathetic to see yourself as a message board knight in shining armor. How impotent does someone have to be in real life to resort to playing hero on a message board?

Hard to say how the situations at second and third will shake out. But against right-handed starting pitchers I imagine that both Kelly Johnson and Jace Peterson will start quite often. Who does that leave as our left handed bat on the bench?

    Bourn.

I think Bourn and Frenchy both head north. I think they drop Bonifacio.

I don't think KJ's going to start quite as often as you do it appears.

Yes. It appears that Bourn will be our primary left-handed back on the bench assuming that Peterson and KJ start a lot of games together against righties. I would much rather have Terdoslavich/Cunningham than Francoeur/Bourn.

Hopefully, Adonis Garcia takes over at third. I have some doubts.

    1b Freeman
    2b Peterson
    SS Aybar
    3B Garcia/KJ
    LF Olivera
    CF Inciarte
    RF Markakis

    Available options for bench:

    KJ/Garcia
    Frenchy
    Bonafacio
    Bourn

Obviously KJ and Garcia are a lock to head north. Frenchy gives a right handed option off the bench with some pop so I think he heads north. Between Bourn and Bonafacio, I think that the edge goes to Bourn and not totally for the right reason. Bourn can still give you a little bit, but we are on the hook for a ton of money. It may not make total sense to cut him AND swisher. So I think Bonafacio is the odd man out.

Will Venable would have been a decent option as LH bench bat. Can also play all three OF positions.

Swish seems like a good guy, but I think we are better off moving on.

    Agreed. Burawa stinks.
