Seems like he's just stepping back a little further from day-to-day operations, not retiring. Guy is 75 and has been in baseball for what, nearly 50 years? Had to step back a bit at some point.

Guys of that caliber often have a hard time stepping away.

I gladly take credit for the original JS caliber meme in the old days. The question is which came first, the chicken (JS) or the egg (Bowman)?

I love how the Braves have basically invented positions in the front office the past decade.

    Bill.Bartholomay is Chairman Emeritus.

Before JS there was no club President role. When he stepped down for Wren they created the position of President for JS.

When Hart came he was just a special assistant to the GM.

When Wren got canned they created the Director of Baseball Operations title for Hart.

JS stepped down and they created the vice chairman role for him. And at the same time they've created two different President roles to replace him.

Not to mention Glav, Chipper, Andruw, Smoltz, Bobby, all received Special Assistant to the GM roles the last few years here.

If there was ever such a thing as the Old Boys Club this is probably the shining example. At the same time it's good to have all these great baseball minds moving forward to build this franchise. Just hope the blueprint works out.

I mean, I'm pretty sure every franchise does this. Heck, pretty much every business does this.

And we had a president before JS; it was Stan Kasten. There may not have been one in between, but it wasn't just a made-up role.

Are you sure it was President? I thought it was Vice President and JS was GM/Executive VP. Or weren't McGuirk and Kasten CEO and Chairman?

    You cannot exist without him.

Without JS you would lose your interwebs identity.

I'm not worried about that, I am worried about the Braves existence, though. Even if I was a Royals fan, I would be frightened.
