Minors thread 816: Gosselin Gets The Cal; Minor League Transactions

So, Philip Gosselin is getting the call.

Gwinnett's second baseman, who was strong season in Triple-A, has been called up by the Braves to replaced injured Tyler Pastornicky. Gwinnett has the luxury of several experienced second baseman on the roster and are not in playoff contention, unlike Class AA Mississippi.

THe Braves' fifth-round selection in June, 2010, the former Virginia Cavalier made a good first impression when he stole home in his first professional game. He has split 2013 evenly between Mississippi and Gwinnett, but with a with a .277 average at Gwinnett after beginning the year hitting .243 in Double-A.

    Other transactions this week:

GWINNETT shuffled the pitching deck with Sean GIlmartin (who was awesome Thursday) and Joe Bisenius (less so) moving up and Gary Moran returning to Mississippi to help out in the stretch race of the pennant race. Moran won the SL ERA title last year.

MISSISSIPPI: Mycal Jones has gone onto the DL with a sprained ankle. Newly acquired minor league outfielder Greg Golson was sent down to Double-A after less than a week with Gwinnett.

LYNCHBURG: Ryan Weber, having a superb year when hurt, has been activated from the Lynchburg DL. Carlos Perez earlier had gone onto the disabled list.

ROME: Pitcher Zach Jadovsky was assigned to R-Braves from Lynchburg.

DANVILLE: Pitcher Luis Monasterio has been promoted to Danville from the GCL Braves. Second baseman Gerald Chin has been moved to the GCL Braves.
    ---------------------
Paul Maholm will be making his first live action rehab start with Rome either Friday night or Saturday. He was the Braves' top winner the first two months of the season and went on the DL with a 9-9 record.
    ---------------------
It might have been a decent idea for the Braves if they had made other arrangements in the Prado deal besides sending Brandon Drury to Arizona a little more than a throw-in. Drury, still only 21, is play for South Bend in the Midwest League and is hitting .311 with 14 homers and a Midwest League-leading 46 doubles. The numbers are a significant jump from last season, when he hit .229 with six homers and 22 doubles for the Rome Braves in the South Atlantic League.

Gosselin is pretty much a living example of why batting average is a poor indicator of a players production.
All you need is Hart and Cox.

Gosselin is nowhere near as good as La Stella. I don't get it.

What happened to Leonard? He had only one error all season, but suddenly he cannot field or throw (5 errors in last few games including 3 errors tonight).
