Lefty Sean Burnett, former No. 1 pick of the Pirates (2000) and yet another healed two-time Tommy John patient, was cut loose by the Nationals Friday despite not allowing a run in nine spring appearances (8.2 innings, one walk, seven strikeouts).
Burnett, 33, did not pitch in 2015, thrown less than 11 MLB innings since 2013.
Second surgery was June of 2014. First time was 2004.
