I would offer Eric Aybar, Necombe, and Ellis.....but like Donald Trump says, if they say no, you have to be willing to walk away!

I'm afraid they walk away from that one.

But seriously, Kole Calhoun might be a good one to target in a trade. He is a good hitter and has several years of team control.

Tough start to the season for Gattis, but I think getting a second chance at catcher could be the best thing for him. Could extend his career 2-3 years if he can stick as a backup C.

Angels get more bad news, Simmons may be out a while after injuring his thumb on a diving stop last night. MLBTR reports:

"Angels shortstop Andrelton Simmons will undergo left thumb surgery, the club announced (h/t MLB.com’s Alden Gonzalez; Twitter links). Simmons has suffered a “full thickness tear of the ulnar collateral ligament” in the thumb.

While an estimate of Simmons’ absence has yet to be reported, there’s little doubt that he’ll miss a significant period of time. For a Halos club that’s been hit hard by injuries and is already five games under .500, it’s a major blow.

Notably, fellow middle infielder Jed Lowrie required what appears to be the very same procedure last year. His surgery took place in late April, and he did not return until the very end of July."

Strasburg signed a 7 year, 175 million extension with Washington.

That seems like a rash decision.

Wow. I guess Borass is learning not to pass up on 150+ million.

It figures that for the first time in a long time the Braves will have significant money to spend and the FA class is absolute crap.

Why would my dude stay in Washington? They won't be that good in the next couple of years. Stupid move on both sides.

One we need to go after is Cervelli, even if we have to slightly overpay.

Opt outs after year 3 or 4. Curious to see pre opt out $. This is a little less than I thought he would get in FA, but he gets the security of locking it in now. No small thing as a guy with a TJ already under his belt.

As a pitcher it would be hard to pass up on any kind of deal like this. Your always one pitch away from getting next to nothing. Position players? I would always go to FA especially when your that close.

They have a pretty solid core, especially the rotation.

Strasburg, Scherzer, Ross, Gio/Roark, Giolito is pretty nasty going forward.

Besides, if he blows out his arm again, no chance of a good payday.

I will admit . . . I was skeptical of the FO's plan to accumulate a ton of pitching, but it may turn out that we timed the market well. We've already pulled off a miracle with Miller, and Teheran could command a premium if he keeps up his current pace. Would prefer to keep Teheran, but the market will be so starved for quality pitching that we need to keep those phone lines open.

I agree. What else are we going to spend on with this bad year for free agents?
