    Around MLB 2016 style

Gotta love it. A challenge from the Cardinals five batters into the season.

Shelby Millet debut tonight. He said this was the easiest transition he's made. He was referring to going to the Diamondbacks. Says the clubhouse feels like a family.

What a Trevor Storybook beginning to a career. Three home runs off of Greinke and Shelby.

Shelby gave up 3 homers and 6 earned runs in the 4th tonight. Not an ideal start in Arizona for him.

Also, if Arizona is going for it they should be regretting not taking Miller and Viz for Pollock right about now. It sure would be nice to have Inciarte in CF, Blair not far off, and Swanson too for the future. IOW, that they turned down the Braves offer and came back with what they did after the Miami trade talks fell through looks really stupid already. Not that it ever seemed wise IMO.

Arizona sure picked up Miller tonight, they've come back to lead 11-6 and still batting in 7th.

Not really. You can't judge it on that. And I don't think we ever truly wanted Pollock in return, I think our plan the whole time was to demand him because we knew they wouldn't give him to us so that when we changed the demand, it seemed like relief to Arizona.

They want that no 1 pick more than us no doubt. Let's hope Fredi pulls some elite level boneheaded moves to land us that top spot

I know the Padres GM isnt hoping for the #1 pick. He staked his job on making ridiculous win now trades and will probably be fired if they get the #1 pick.

Sure I can, I just did. Also, those reporting on the talks don't agree with you concerning the Braves and Pollock. IOW, Braves were clearly interested in him and wanted him in those early talks. They asked for him in a number of deals, including Miller for Pollock straight up to start, and various multi-player deals early and late in the talks. Further, this shouldn't be a surprise as they have a track record of locking onto certain players and of course a lot of teams would have strong interest in Pollock.

To be fair we have no idea what exactly was discussed in those deals. Reportedly we offered Miller and Viz in a deal for Pollock, but we have no clue what other moving parts may have been discussed. May be the proposed deal included Blair or Swanson also?

According to MLBTR and multiple sources we did ask for Pollock straight up in return for Miller and Arizona said no. Then later on asked for him again for Miller including Viz and other packages were discussed. But these packages included Pollock too according to reports and Atlanta didn't agree to any other package till after Arizona came back to them seemingly more desperate once the trade talks with Miami fell through.

To sum it up, I'd say I am being fair unless we just take all reports as meaning nothing. If so I might agree if there wasn't so much smoke here, where there is this much smoke there's usually fire.

Not saying you are wrong, but I don't recall reading that, and my lazy 2 minute google of this information returned no articles saying of such.

The only articles I found reported that the Braves offered Miller and Viz for Pollock and Blair. But again, without being in the room, there is zero way of knowing what offers were actually made.

All you had to do was search Braves interest in Pollock at MLBTR to bring up that information: "The Braves continue to ask the Diamondbacks for A.J. Pollock, reports Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports (links to Twitter). After the D-backs initially rejected Atlanta’s proposal of Miller for Pollock, the Braves came back with an offer of Miller and right-hander Arodys Vizcaino for Pollock and minor league right-hander Aaron Blair, which Arizona also rejected." Source link: http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2015/1...ubs-trade.html

Plus if you read Rosenthal and other reports at the time you'd see that I am going by what was reported from multiple sources and Arizona verified much of said reports later too. Not that I recall either side denying it.

Former Brave minor leaguer (with one game as a major leaguer) LHP Ryan Buchter made the Padres' opening day roster.

The beginning of the schedule sucks. Two off days within the span of four days? You know those players would appreciate those off days being more in the dog days of August instead of when they are already fresh.

I'd rather them just start the season on a Friday, so all teams can play Friday-Sunday in a 3-game set. You might as well give them Monday-Thursday off after spring training is over based on the current schedule.

On the bright side, they almost doubled their season hit total.
