Former Georgia Bulldog Lawlor goes four innings, allowing only one hit.

Albies has Mississippi's only two hits through five innings

    Riley 0-3, 3 Ks

Went to the Mississippi game. Albies hit the ball hard all 4 at bats. Really impressed by Ellis. The sinker was getting ground balls and his curve ball(I think) looked fantastic.
All you need is Hart and Cox.

The development of pitchers (actually all prospects) always has a big element of uncertainty. It could be that some of our less heralded acquisitions like Gant, Winkler and Ellis turn out to be more valuable than the big names. It is very important to keep an open mind about them and give them as many opportunities as possible to develop as starters.

Thoughts on d Peterson? He was raking before crash and finished strong. Seems to be getting some doubles. Could he be a prado type of?

I think Ellis will ultimately come out of the pen, but he has a chance to break through in Atlanta this year.

Today, the Braves will be starting at each level:

    Atlanta: Julio Teheran
    Gwinnett: Aaron Blair
    Mississippi: Sean Newcombe
    Carolina: Max Povse
    Rome: Max Fried

Incredible pitching! What other organization can throw out arms at each level like those?

I thought they overdid it a little on pitching last year, but the one thing that stood out was the selection of physically big guys with velocity. Think Clark, Withrow, Weigel right in a row then add guys like Grayson Jones, Chase Johnson-Mullins, and Dalton Geekie a little later.

I'm watching Ray-Patrick Didder a bit. The on-base skills he exhibited in the DSL haven't really held up, but he's drawn 3 walks in the first two games. Curious to see if that will grow into a trend. Looks to have some athletic ability witnessed by his ability to hit triples, so there may be something there.

Yes. This is exactly what it was like in the 80's. There really wasn't much to get excited about at the major league level, so I focused on what was happening at the lower levels and waiting for the cavalry to arrive. Little did I realize how amazing the 90's were going to be.
