Some interesting stuff in this article.

"Privately, Braves officials fumed. The team is in the middle of a rebuilding project on the field and preparing to move into a new ballpark in 2017, and has been telling fans and players alike for the past 18 months that the franchise was getting back to doing things the “Braves Way.”"

"One Braves official, speaking off the record about the charges, said this is not what the organization is about, and that the Braves would “do the right thing” as the case moved forward."

"The charge is a misdemeanor, not a felony, so it’s unclear whether the Braves would be able to recover any of the approximate $32 million they owe Olivera through 2020 if they decided at any point to move on from him. Team officials haven’t indicated yet whether they would try to do that or if it’s something they’ve even discussed at this time."

So it appears the team hasn't ruled out cutting Olivera. If the allegations turn out to be true then I hope he's played his last game as a Brave.

You know...thats more telling that I'd have imagined the teams stance to be already. Seems they are really upset at this.

They clearly regret the trade so they probably already don't like the guy... now they're understandably furious

I wonder if anyone would consider trading for him. If we picked up half the tab on his contract he would end up as a $3 million dollar a year risk. That's about what you'd expect to pay a bench player.

This is a front office known for always playing it straight with the fans. It has built up an enormous amount of credibility by always being open and honest about its plans and intentions. With other front offices, I might suspect some spinning going on. But not this one.

This is why Mens Rights groups are gaining momentum. If there wasnt security cameras and it came down to his word vs hers he would be convicted 90% of the time if not more. Its scary to think that at any time your life depends on the random chance there were cameras proving where you were when a woman wants to make a false claim about you. Its in large part due to our perception that anyone that is arrested is guilty and why I said something. If we dont protect due process for the guilty then the innocent wont have it either. Dont get me started on the police not charging these women for terrorizing men. The hooker from the Duke Lacrosse case didnt get charged and she went on to murder someone.

Yeah, I think this front office is legitimately committed to getting back to a very specific message and philosophy they firmly believe in. They want this to be pervasive throughout the system and I don't see them standing for stunts like this. I almost wonder if the thing that galls them the most is that they were so in love with this guy. They went hard after him absolutely convinced he'd be a major asset. Now they have to be disgusted that they missed so badly.

Bottom line is this clearly doesn't fit with what this front office is trying to build and I don't see them compromising on that.

From a PR perspective this like manna from heaven. It deflects attention from all of the positive reports our scouts have been generating on Olivera, including the rave reviews on how athletic he looked in left field this past winter. We can quietly close the books on the whole Olivera saga without further discussion about the questions raised on the baseball side.

I doubt a team would trade for him right now but there will be a line of people wanting to sign him at the league minimum if he is cut. I think the only option the team has with him is to send him to the minor leagues and let him rehab is reputation and hopefully learn how to hit a baseball.

I was an admitted Olivera optimist, but this incident has forced me off his island.

There is reason to believe that collective vow has been taken.

I just don't understand what the FO of this organization saw in this guy, and why they had such a large boner for him and needed to acquire him. Made no sense then, makes even less sense now.

question.....if/when MLB hands him the suspension, we don't pay him for that amount of time correct? I wonder the length he will get, Chapman was not charged and got 30 days

Hard to say. This woman got sent to the hospital while I don't think the woman in the Chapman incident did. Then there's the fact that this was in a team hotel during the season. That could play a part.

It wouldn't surprise me if the Chapman suspension set the bar for a first offense. I also wouldn't be surprised if Olivera got 50 if this woman was hurt worse combined with the fact it was in a team hotel.
