why is buying bad contracts considered tanking? We would just put them on waivers and release them..

Here are the tradable picks. Hard to see who would be in a position to trade a pick for salary relief other then our old pals the D'backs.

    Competitive Balance Round A
    35 Reds
36 Dodgers (for not signing Kyle Funkhouser)
    37 Athletics
    38 Rockies
    39 Diamondbacks
40 Braves (via trade with Marlins)
    41 Pirates

    Competitive Balance Round B
    71 Padres
    72 Indians
    73 Twins
74 Twins (for not signing Kyle Cody)
    75 Brewers
    76 Orioles
    77 Rays

The Dodgers have been in cost cutting mode.. but I don't see them trading picks to do it..

I bet the Dodgers would love to get out of that Olivera deal they signed last year... Oh wait.

What bad contracts might they be considering that run out this year?

If we really are desperate to do it, then I'm guessing we already have a pretty good idea of who we want to take and know how much it'll take.

I wonder about a Matt kemp with San Diego. He makes $21.5/year through 2020. Not really the ideal one due to amount and length of the deal. But right handed pop.

Dodger's cover 3.5 each year.. but still 18 million a year.. that is a lot for us..

I think Kemp would be a target for them. I wonder if they would take Hector from us in exchange for Kemp. That would net the Padres around 40 mill in savings I think

With a lot coming off the books and the weak free agent class he may not be an overall terrible guy to go at. Some right handed power to tandem with Freeman. He will be 34 in 2020 at the end of his contract

I don't have any interest in taking on Kemp's big contract who should decline further in the future. He is terrible on defense and has been for years. I doubt we get any of the Padres or Reds picks, probably some of the other teams MLBTR lists.

Maybe Billy Butler and his contract along with the A's pick? Something along those lines, we'd need more than a pick to take on his contract though.

They're not going to be taking on a contract like that. They're almost certainly looking for more Arroyo-type deals.

I'd certainly hope so, even the Butler idea I am not sure could work as it's taking on 10 million next year too. I'd prefer only trades that take on money this year personally.

Of course that makes the most sense. Just late night running through rosters to see who might be able to produce something of value for us.

the free agent class will be so bad that signing someone impact is not likely. Kemp could provide at least a small boost

Markakis or Chacin might be a fit for Baltimore. Markakis might fit for Cleveland. We'd likely have to be willing to eat a big chunk of Nick's money in either case considering neither of them have any obvious contracts they'd desperately want to unload. The Kemp angle would seem to make a little sense on the surface, but if they're looking to acquire prospects like we are, how much would you really be willing to give up for a little extra slot money PLUS be willing to take on a bad long-term deal? The Pirates seemed to want to move Melancon for budget reasons over the winter, but what other "bad contract" do they have (not to mention unloading their Closer when they're a legitimate contender seems awfully dangerous since they'd have to unload serious prospects to replace him if in-house options didn't work out)?

Definitely not many potential contenders on that list, no doubt.
Has there EVER been a statement and question a certain someone should absolutely never have made and asked publicly more than...

Kinda pathetic to see yourself as a message board knight in shining armor. How impotent does someone have to be in real life to resort to playing hero on a message board?

I don't think Kemp would be a boost at all. He's kind of garbage.
