    Bud Black to manage Braves in 2017?

    According to Bob Nightengale he's the "heavy favorite" to manage the Atlanta Braves in 2017:

    @BNightengale
    While the debate rages in Atlanta whether #Braves should fire Fredi Gonzalez, Buddy Black is the heavy favorite to be their manager in 2017.

    @BNightengale
    Bud Black, who was nearly hired to manage the #Nats this year, now on the #Braves radar for the 2017 season.

    I like Bud Black, but didn't he catch on with an organization after he was fired?

    The Nats almost hired him this year. Right now he has a role with the Angels for this season (special assistant to GM or something like that), but he could get out of that if a job at managing again in MLB comes his way.

    I honestly think this would be the best choice. With a team that's going to be pretty young I would rather have an established manager, who by all accounts doesn't suck, than some unknown or promote from within.

    I wonder if the Yankees continue to struggle if Joe Girardi might become available. He has NL managerial experience.

    I would also interview coaches for NL teams who have established a track record of success and doing things in a fairly progressive way: the Pirates, Cubs, Cardinals and Giants.

    It seems to me we should hold off picking a new manager until the off-season when it will be easier to interview those sorts of candidates and a guy like Girardi might become available.

    If we fire Fredi, I'd go with an interim guy for this season.

    I've always liked Girardi. If available, he'd be my #1 choice. Also agree that if they dump Fredi, do an interim guy. Perez, Snitker, Randy Ingle. Too bad Phil Wellman isn't with the organization anymore.

    Completely agree on that end. That's why I think it would be nice to have Eddie or TP take over to see what they do during the season. They essentially get a few months on the job interview....then you re-evaluate in the offseason

    After watching this, I'm all in on the Wally Backman bandwagon (you have to wait a bit for the fun part).

    I know little about Gerardi's tendencies as a manager, but I can say I do like his demeanor in general.
    Black is pretty respected tho and I'm surprised he's not managing right now.

    why ?
    He had 4-5 Gonzalez ish years with the Pads .
    There were 5-6 managerial positions open since last year this time (not counting Pads) and was passed over for every one

    I don't understand why people are so in love with Bud Black - he has done nothing to distinguish himself
    Why would he be different than what is there now ?
    The best way to stop a bad guy with a gun is to make sure he doesn’t get a gun.

    I was impressed by his bullpen management watching him over the years and both his reputation and track record in that area and managing pitchers overall is strong despite managing some bad rosters in general. He also almost got hired by the Nats and had articles like this one written about him praising his bullpen management: http://washington.cbslocal.com/2015/...-nats-bullpen/.

    Considering that we will be debuting a ton of young arms in the next two or three years, I think we could do worse.

    Here's another piece that suggests that both Black and Girardi are among the best at managing bullpens. That would be a nice change for us IMO.

    It will be a big mistake not to let Eddie Perez get a shot. He will leave and probably succeed much as Ned Yost has.

    I honestly would gladly take anyone outside of Fredi. But Black would be a great option
