I like that all of our starters are now young. Looks like the '17 starting rotation audition is now underway. What % do you put on each one being a starter in Atlanta to begin '17?

It is a nice group. But someone will get hurt. Most teams need about 8 decent starters to get through a season. So I would say we will be giving significant starts over the course of 2016-17 to the five listed, plus Gant, Sims and one more to be determined from among Jenkins and the guys currrently in AA.
I keep saying we do not have a surplus of starting pitching. We have about the right amount to get us through this season and next.

Blair and Wisler are the main locks, Teheran will be too if not traded (MLBTR said recently GM's around the league expect him to be available and likely traded). I still am not sold on Folty going forward so he'd be at to bottom of the list with Perez. Perez issues are consistency and also others in line that the organization likes more. That makes him a longer shot because if he slips once more at all he may not get another shot for a while. Further, I think as far as those close next in line I'd say Gant looks the most ready and that I like Jenkins but expect him to have a future in the bullpen rather than starting. I also like Sims a lot but not sure when they'll give him a shot.
Sims is certainly among my favorites going forward. I think he'll be among our best starters one day unless traded.

I think it's a good rotation. Not great but could be good. Not threatening mets or nats of course.
We also have gant and Jenkins right there to fight for 4 and 5 and depth. Sims and Newcombe are close for high level arms.
Next yr we hope to have viz, Simmons, winkler and winthrow as high level arms.
Still not sure how we will hit enough
I think the likelihood of Teheran being trade has just sky rocketed with the Stras deal....
Get off my lawn!
That rotation would probably be league average at best, especially if Teheran is gone (and I like the idea of trading him because of what we should get in return). I just don't like that we've rebuilt around pitching and I have to talk myself into an ace coming out of all the guys we've acquired.

What teams would be interested in JT and what could we expect back? Houston and Boston are 2 teams that come to mind.
Assuming health:
Teheran - 80%
Wisler - 100%
Blair - 100%
Folty - 60%
Perez - 20%

Yeah, that's how it looks to me. I like having all these homegrown(ish) guys who are in rotation options, but a couple of them are going to need to step in with TOR potential. Maybe Sims or Newcomb, maybe Folty if he takes a quantum leap...but right now I really have to squint to see a 1-2 guy on the near horizon.
Agreed.
Down the pike maybe you have Allard/Soroka.............. but at AA and up its gotta either be Sims/Newcomb/Folty and they all have warts right now that don't scream TOR. All are still young though and certainly there's worse things than having several #3 type starters.

While having a TOR guy would be nice, it is possible to construct a very good team without one. There is a small chance that we could trade for one or sign one. Very small. Anyone we brought in externally would very likely be another mid-rotation type. Perhaps with a bit more experience.
Folty has become a more intriguing pitcher to me because of his two seam fastball. I just don't remember him throwing that pitch much if at all last season. Looking at fangraphs that appears to be the case. You can see that his slider percentage is way up and his fastball velocity is down a bit. I think that's just a case of fangraphs struggling to differentiate between the two seamer and the slider at times. He will be an interesting guy to watch the rest of this season.
thank you weso1!

The Mets rotation is great, but it's also not like it's made of a bunch of guys who were elite prospects. DeGrom never made the top 100, and while he is definitely an outlier and didn't even come up until he was 26, his K rates weren't ever great in the minors.
Harvey eventually got himself into the top 30 but wasn't ever at the top. Same with Matz, though he never even got himself quite as high as Harvey.
Syndergaard and Wheeler were their two big-time prospects, and Wheeler's not even pitching.
