Wonder how the Braves will play this one.

Olivera will be permitted to participate at extended spring training the entire suspension, will also be eligible for rehab games in the minors begin inning in July I think

If the Braves decide to keep him and send him to the minors to rehab it might be the best thing for his career. He's been clearly overmatched at the MLB level. Maybe some time in the minors will help him sort some stuff out.

They could have suspended him a full year and I'd be okay with it. Assuming he actually did what he's accused of, I have no use for him.

The Braves can't release him prior to August 1st? I know they can't punish him any more.. but I can't remember if releasing him would be 'punishment'

Hopefully he's permanently suspended from ever putting on a Braves uni again.

I imagine they're free to release him at any point now.

innocent until proven guilty.. just because he accepted punishment, doesn't make him guilty. Just the easiest way to play ball before he collects retirement.

I have to admit, I wouldn't mind charlie manson on the team if he could hit a curve ball

I'm all for second-chances, and I hope that Olivera—despite his alleged violent indiscretion—receives one (just as I hope he's not a serial menace). But I admit I won't be disappointed if that second-chance is neither with the Atlanta nor the Cobb County Braves.

I have a problem suspending players for crimes they havent been convicted of. This is part of a bigger issue where its becoming socially acceptable to deny men due process. Your being led to believe that DV in sports in epidemic and that DV is perpetrated only by men.

Code of conduct policies across all work environments generally are inconsistent with the justice system. MLB investigated the matter on their own and I support their right to issue their own verdict based on, hopefully, evidence.

What he allegedly did and this subsequent suspension, while obviously bad, could never have been anticipated. However, the glaring holes in his swing, and his serious lack of defensive abilities most definitely should have been seen by our scouts/FO and the trade should never have happened. How they could have been so completely wrong on him really is mind boggling.

Fair or not, as chop says, it's a corporate code-of-conduct issue. It's the same reason that, for instance, the NFL can suspend Denver players for cannabis use, even though its consumption is legal in their home-state. (It's also why I personally think the state should have some role in governing what is and is not acceptable for an employer to demand of its employees.)
