Viz and Teheran listed as top trade candidates

    Top 15 Trade Candidates

    5. Arodys Vizcaino, RP, Braves — Vizcaino has shown some cracks in his most recent work. In 3 1/3 innings over four appearances since June 7th, he has surrendered three earned runs on four hits and five walks while recording four strikeouts. That’s not enough to set off any alarm bells, but it’s worth watching how he bounces back.

    7. Julio Teheran, SP, Braves — With Teheran now laying down an impressive run of results, the focus is less on his ability than it is on the market. Atlanta won’t just settle for the best offer for the righty, who is cheap and controllable for years to come, but will set a high price and see if it’s met. As the rest of this list shows, there isn’t much in the way of quality starting pitching available; a club with a present need and future interest could conceivably be enticed to meet the ask.

If we can get top value for them... They are cheap and good.

If someone wants then badly enough to pay for them in players that will help the Braves moving forward, then trade.

If somebody matches the price tag we have for our players, we trade them. If they don't we keep them. Why? The sellers rule the trade market- especially in bullpen and pitching wise..

Yep. There's no pressing need to trade guys like Viz and Julio. We set our price and don't budge. Worst that happens is we end up keeping these guys and that's not a bad thing.

100%. Do NOT sell these guys low.

The worst case scenario should be we get to keep two solid MLB players on team friendly deals. If they leave it should be considered an overpay b/c someone is going for the WS.

Young controllable pitching? Trade them...for a 30 something unknown Cuban hitter that had one impressive workout. I mean the upside could be HUGE. The downside....well, it could be anything.

Apparently lots of scouts at yesterday's game scouting Jay Bruce. But would have also taken note of Teheran's impressive performance after struggling in the 1st inning, then settling in to get something like 17 outs in a row after that.

Will be interesting to see which teams farm system the Braves want to use to get players who will never crack the big leagues.

    Or for a top 20 prospect, a top 50 prospect that's a SP, and a 3-WAR CFer.

Hmm, I can't imagine what you're talking about. But, it sounds like one hell of a haul for everyone got it done.

Viz should be traded before the deadline. His value will likely never be higher and relievers always have a high chance to crap the bed at any moment. Get what you can for him now. JT you need to have a return of what you would take and not settle for anything less. If we keep him he will still be good and young enough to help the team when we contend again. I doubt Viz will be.

So, how valuable is viz? What's a realistic return?

Orgs top 10 plus lessor piece. If you get top three. You might be good. IMO.

I think Viz to Seattle makes a lot of sense for a package built around Tyler O'Neill. Big time RH power, and people are raving about the hit tool coming a long way this season. He's putting up big numbers at Double A. Plus the K rate is down, walk rate is up. Plug him into a corner OF spot in 2017 or 2018, and there's the RH power bat we need.

Hard to say. Some team in contention at the deadline that needs a top end reliever might be willing to overpay a little. But getting a teams top 10 prospect would be a good starting point.

I don't think Cubs want Vizcaino back- they need a left handed specialist.
And personally, I want Teheran to the Pirates for Meadows+...

Epstein has really done a great job with trades since coming to the Cubs, but we pantsed him on the Viz deal. I was not a believer in Viz initially, and I still think we should sell high on him, but if we do we're going to end up with a pretty good return for TLS.
