Riley went 1-3 tonight with a walk. He has struck out only once in his last seven games.

Ricardo Sanchez just pitched one of the best starts by any Braves farmhand all year (7 IP, 1 H, 11 K)

Braves picked him up for Kubitza and a reliever. I always liked that trade. Glad he is showing something.

Some observers have knocked the performance of the Braves minor league pitchers this year, but I think the young kids have really been promising and made some strides.

I always thought the upper minors guys had ceilings, but a lot of those young guys down in A ball really have a lot of room to run at this point.

Angels also traded Kubitza to Texas for cash this past month, good move by Texas IMO. Kubitza has done great in AAA Round Rock for Texas and my guess is he's up with the Rangers in Sept. if he keeps it up. They are playing him all over so should have a shot at being a decent bench player in MLB soon (1B, 3B, LF and DH). Plus he's from Arlington, Texas so he'll be playing at home in that case.

Another perfect inning for Minter, this time with two Ks.

Sanchez has such a high ceiling and is so young. A little development and health and he could explode

Has he given up an ER as a pro?

If he explodes, could we still trade the bits left over? Do they count as separate prospects?

Not sure, maybe we can have Boston try that sort of package deal out for us first and if they get into more trouble we'll know.

No, also he's not related to Braves lefty Cervenka as far as I can tell (Cervenka started out his Braves career in similar fashion as you may recall, though not as a young prospect).

Sanchez is raw, but, as striker notes, he's also really young. We've joked a lot about collecting high-upside arms, but getting him for Kubitza looks like a sharp deal in retrospect. Kubitza could be a decent little reserve player, but we have guys in the system who are similar to him, and Sanchez has some real promise. All in all, I'd still call him a longshot, but he's got a terrific arm.

Watched Swanson and Albies again tonight and they work very well together. Swanson just has that it factor and swagger to him. He's the field general and ha no problem taking charge. He gave my nephew a game use bat and ba and signed both. I have a pic but have never uploaded one here.

It was a good trade, though I did like Kubitza and still think he'll be back in the Majors later this year with his home town team (Texas Rangers). Also, A.J. Minter might end up our closer in a year or two if he keeps dominating like he has so far.

The Angels did DFA him, which is pretty astonishing given what they have in the minors. the reliever in the deal has since retired.
