thank you weso1!
Gary Sanchez. Also they have Romine a former good prospect. Looking at the simpleness of it, Mac is owed about 40 million guaranteed plus a potential 15M option if he's not severely hurt in 2017 or 2018. Markakis is owed about 25M. So there's a big salary difference. But it's why the Yankees may do it. I think Mac in terms of Jersey/ti ketsales makes up a chunk of that difference and he's a superior player. Having him wind his career down in Atlanta would be rad.

I'd do it, but I think it makes more sense to be separate trades. The Yanks have Ellsbury and Gardner already. They're going to want to introduce Judge and Frazier. I think we can flip Markakis and then acquire Mac, and have Mac on the books for less than 17M including any money we may have to eat to move Nick.
The Yankees have Sanchez and Romine. Both out of options after this year. They traded away Beltran and will probably be looking for an outfielder this off-season.
I'd be willing to add a second-tier prospect to make it happen.
This makes sense from both teams perspectives.
Frazier has mostly played AA this year. I don't think they rush him. Judge has hit .261, I don't think they pencil him in as a starting outfielder. Muk would be a good transitional player to bridge to Frazier. Would also put them in a position to trade Gardner if the return was good.

Would love to find a way to make this trade work from the Braves perspective. Markakis is a better fit for that park, and would have hope of hitting 5-10 HRs with NYY.
Another possibility I've pondered is something with BAL built around Markakis for Ubaldo Jimenez. Jimenez is under contract next year for $13.5m. He's getting BABIPed in a big way this year. He's a 1-2 WAR pitcher in decline, so would probably be our #2 starter next year! The Orioles brass loves Markakis, and they could really use corner OF help next year (Trumbo is a FA and they are weak in LF).
We have the endorsement I was looking for. dak says yea to Muk for Mac!
One interesting detail. Mac has a full no trade clause. Which I believe gives us some leverage in this situation. How much is hard to gauge. But if the Yankees decide that Sanchez and Romine are their catchers for next year, we might be in a pretty good position.
Not so sure. We'd have to pay an extra 6 million per year. And then he has a 15 million option for his age 35 season. He could ask for that to guarantee with a trade.
He's just not that good anymore.
I'd rather do that than lose a pick and pay 10+ million for 4+ years to a weiters or castro.
But I dislike all of those options in reality.
This is why I went from not wanting McCann two weeks ago to now hoping we trade for him. I'm terrified of this front office giving up an early second round pick to sign Wieters or Ramos. We simply aren't close to being in position to give up high picks for free agents. If trading for McCann is the best way to avoid them giving up a pick, then that's what I'm rooting for.
Ha, I just wish I has some sway with Hal Steinbrenner, who seems to make all the decisions in the Bronx.
I think Russ2Dollas is on to something important when it comes to McCann's contract (details below). His 2019 option becomes a player option if he is healthy and effective enough to stay a starting catcher. He will almost certainly ask for this to be converted to a pure player option if asked to approve a trade. Would it be a definitive red line for him in a trade to the Braves? Maybe. So we may be looking at a 3 / $49m contract for his age 33-35 seasons. My sense is that McCann is likely to veto any trade that's brought to him, except for a trade to ATL.
5 years/$85M (2014-18), plus 2019 club option
signed by NY Yankees as a free agent 12/3/13
14-18:$17M annually. 19:$15M club option (no buyout)
2019 becomes player option if McCann: 1) has at least 1,000 plate appearances combined in 2017-18, 2) starts at least 90 games at catcher in 2018, and 3) does not end 2018 season on disabled list
full no-trade protection
He's not worth the contract but he's still a 2 WAR player which is loads better than what we have right now. And I think your point of not losing a pick or much minor league talent (like Kmep) is something the Braves are looking hard at right now. Those are the players we will try and get the next 2 years or so.
