Not a terrible move by any means, but I dont see reasoning behind it. Hes not pushing to get promoted and the org. says hes not quite ready.....so why rush it? If he was performing well, you could at least justify it by rewarding good play. Hes not going to help us win anything.
Kudos to Hart for being honest. I think that's a fair way to say it . . . he may not be ready, but they want to see if he's the solution at SS. If it had been Albies that stayed at SS and Dansby had moved to 2B, I think Albies would be making his MLB debut tomorrow.
http://www.ajc.com/news/sports/baseb...-catche/nsGxx/Hart said Swanson “may not be quite ready” for the majors and that, ideally, the Braves would give him more seasoning. However, Hart said promoting Swanson now gives the Braves a chance to determine if he can be the shortstop in 2017.

Guys! The FO is the FO so therefore they always know more than us. And therefore, they cannot - under any circumstances - make a mistake... because they are the FO!!!

Who cares about his service time or whatever. Chances are he will not be as good as you all think or he will be pretty good and traded in 2020 because the Braves hate major league players.
Ventura's Stolen Bases
Could the Braves keep him down in 2017 and get back the year of service time?

I don't agree with the decision to promote him quite yet, but those who are saying it should be Albies instead are completely ignoring defense. Swanson has been significantly better defensively this season. Also, Swanson's peripherals have been pretty good, very comparable to Trae Turner.
thank you weso1!

These last 43 games will essentially be an audition to see if Dansby is ready to be our starting shortstop starting in 2017. John Hart basically said as much. If he struggles, I think it is very possible he starts 2017 in either AA or AAA, and yes his clock would stop until he was brought back up. If does OK or better and he remains in the bigs, then starting him now instead of waiting until opening day 2017 doesn't change our team control one way or the other, and gives Dansby 43 games of major league experience.

You may be right... I have no idea but I'm not claiming opinion as fact like the negative crew is. The fact is we don't know yet if this is a good move or not. I'm at least willing to wait and see before calling it a dumb move. If he gets some MLB experience and does well it will be a great preparation for next year and we could start competing sooner than many think possible. Let's wait and see the results before calling be professional baseball guys with tons of real world baseball experience morons as fact.

I think even if he is great... it's not a good move.
I mean.. sure, we could trade Freeman and Teheran for someone like Matt Latos... I would scream about that being a dumb move. But you have every right to say that the FO knows more than us, and you're willing to wait to see the results before passing judgement.
And I suspect you would.
And before someone says "I can't believe you're comparing the two situations..." Well, I'm not. But just saying it's perfectly reasonable to call out a senseless move when it happens. This move seems senseless... for a host of reasons. But there's not many reasons to suggest it makes sense

My opinion really has nothing to do with how Swanson performs. I really don't want to see our FO rushing prospects when they haven't proven they are ready, it reeks of slight desperation rather than solid planning. It's one thing to push players up if you think they are a better option when you are in the middle of a playoff race, but this season means nothing, and even if tons of things go right for us next season we will be a barely over .500 team. It just doesn't make logical sense to rush a player and take a chance on hurting his development in this situation. This is very much not a normal move around baseball relatively speaking.
