    Last true Braves contender

What do you think the last team the Braves had that was possibly capable of winning the World Series?

I think I'd go with 2002. Still had Glavine, Maddux and Millwood, good pen. Pretty decent lineup with chipper and Sheffield and other pretty good pieces.

After that point, the pitching really wasn't there, I don't think.

You nailed it when Glav went north any hope we had of winning rings went with him. The only exception might be the 2010 group that all got dinged up late in the year. If that squad had been reasonably healthy it could have made a run at least to the NLCS.

    2003.

The pitching was shaky, but the offense was good enough to overcome it. At least it should have been.

That '13 group had division winning pitching over 162 games but just were not built for a short series. The Dodgers proved it.

2010 if everyone stayed healthy. Injuries, specifically season ending and late season injuries derailed that team, cause when healthy it was nasty. And it could have been even more nasty if the organization never traded Vaz for Melky and instead didn't have money tied up into KK as well as putting KJ in left and finding a viable righty platoon partner in left and if McClouth wouldn't have completely sucked in a Braves uniform.

Think about it, the rotation had Hansen, Hudson, and Lowe. While Lowe wasn't great he was a guy I trusted in a big game and he was unstoppable the last two months of the year. Vazquez would have made this a phenomenal rotation. Medlen was also in the fold.

The bullpen could have been sick. Wagner, Venters, Kimbrel, Moylan, OFlaherty, Saito.

Chipper, McCann, Glaus, Heyward, and Prado for everyday players. Remember Glaus was an MVP candidate in mid June until his knees gave out for the final time. Our lineup with him was good and when he no longer could play it changed the lineup completely, and then when Chipper went down it was the final straw.

The bench which had to step up big time to survive with all the injuries was arguable our best ever. Hinske, Infante, Conrad, Ross.

Before that 2002. Thought we would go far that year but Glavines suckage in the second half put a damper to that with Smoltz no longer in the rotation. As our offense didn't materialize into what I think it should have been, specifically Giles injury and Vinny's suckage even worse than I expected. First base was a pleasant surprise with the Franco's but in the end needed to be shored up considering the below average production we were getting out of 3rd, 2nd, and C.

2003 was awful. Don't want to relive anything from that team. The offense was great and fun but I'm sorry your not going to win much with a very good but past his prime Maddux and a bunch of overrated scrubs as the rotation and a bullpen with Smoltz and.....Blowberto, Burger King, Gryboski, and every pitch slider Hodges. Will Cunane and Jarer Wright to the rescue!

2012. It was the most balanced and healthy team we've had in a long time. Stupid WC game. Stupid Sam Holbrook.

2013 was great as well, but we had too many holes in certain places. Hudson's injury really shortened our rotation and killed our chances in a short series.

I consider any team that makes the playoffs to be a contender. We've seen too many mediocre teams get hot and win the WS to think otherwise.
