I don't agree with this whatsoever, but I hope it doesn't come back to bite us! He's been awesome for us.

Roger is good with reclamation project relievers. Not sure he's the guy I would want developing young starters with high end potential.
He won't be unemployed long.

Didn't see this coming. I wouldn't worry too much. JJ might be the only guy affected by this.
I would say this is part of a bigger coaching shift. Hold on to hats guys.
Looking much more likely that Bud Black will be the next manager. Maybe he want's to reunite with Darren Balsley as pitching coach.

Snitker going to bring Leo back!!!!
Actually, this sounds like they will probably be hiring Bud Black. Ugh!
I like McDowell and think he will get another MLB job in short order. Maybe he's a better fit for a more veteran pitching staff though.

I wouldn't think they would make Black the new pitching coach.. would they?? just don't see him taking a step back like that.
How many of our young pitchers have flourished when called up?

http://m.braves.mlb.com/news/article...ut-in-atlanta/Julio Teheran and McDowell are a couple strong-willed individuals who have butted heads over the past few years. But after this duo worked together to make some mechanical adjustments during a disappointing 2015 season, Teheran returned this year and posted a 3.21 ERA that might have been better had he not dealt with some nagging ailments (infected thigh and upper back muscle strain).
While Mike Foltynewicz developed into a bona fide big leaguer by the end of this season, the inconsistencies and struggles of two other highly regarded prospects -- Matt Wisler and Aaron Blair -- led the Braves to be concerned about how Sean Newcomb and other prospects would fare on McDowell's watch.
Assuming that Black will be named manager in pretty short order. We want to get on with the offseason and shaping our roster.
One interesting thing is that the entire staff was on a 1 year deal for last year, so i'm sure the situation is going to be fluid with a new manager.
Get off my lawn!
i have no problem with this.
hell, i'd like all traces of the fredi regime wiped out. hope tp and eddie the bigot perez are next.
Ugh.
Forever Fredi

Looking at his body of work, I've always been as or more impressed with McDowell than I was with Mazzone. Mazzone had the luxury of working with three Hall of Famers (and a fat payroll) and for all the talk about guys who never missed starts due to injury, Avery, Millwood, and Smoltz are case in point where that was overblown. I don't Leo did all that well with young pitchers either. J.C. Bradbury and others will disagree with me, but I think Leo was always a tad overrated.
Folty did look better and Wisler did when he came back from the minors. I have concerns about McDowell also with the younger guys. Blair fell off the map when he got called up.

The rationale for this move is defensible, I think. But it's risky. We're giving up a bird in hand for two in the bush.
