Anyone seen this? A major theory that Jar Jar Binks is actually the with lord who was manipulating everyone to bring the dark side to power.
I'm pretty convinced it's true... it's a shame Lucas didn't follow through with it if it were... would have potentially salvaged the prequel trilogy

I doubt it. Wouldn't make sense to change it around like that. I think he could have been played into a Jedi, but that was changed. Jar Jar could be viewed in the same general vein as Yoda, but he could also be viewed in the same vein as Jawas.
My favorite Star Wars theory though is that Chewie and R2D2 along with Obi Wna and Bail Organa were the important leaders. R2's memory wasn't wiped like C3POs. So Leia didn't give R2 the battle plans, he had them. She really didn't know that much about them. Chewie was bungling smuggling runs for Han to keep control of the Millennium Falcon and use it as it was used.

Saw Spectre. Reallysolid Maybe not quite as good as Skyfall. But much better than Quantum of Solace. Really enjoyed the overall tie in. Christoph Waltz was an amazing Bond Villain.
Sadly it's flaw if you would was the bond finale and what comes next. Craig is signed on for 2 more films bt do they go elsewhere? Box office will play a role for sure But early reports are it killed. I think there will be a healthy time break. Let Bond age a bit if you would before bringing him back into the foldwhen his country needs him most.

Saw "Trumbo" yesterday. Solid movie that I highly recommend as much as a history lesson as a piece of cinematic work, but not as good (at least to me) of the 2007 documentary that was written by his son and featured a number of impressive actors reading from his letters and journals. Bryan Cranston (who is hotter than Hansel right now) does a good job in the lead role and it's an impressive set of supporting actors and actresses (Diane Lane, Louis CK, Michael Stuhlberg, John Goodman, Elle Fanning, and Helen Mirren among them) with former dwarf Dean O'Gorman being just flat-out awesome as Kirk Douglas.
I am too young to remember the height of the Red Scare, but it hung on through the late-1950s/early-1960s and I remember some of the hysteria. The blacklist was absolutely horrifying and should serve as a reminder in these troubled times that we can go do far and that pushback against oppression is warranted.

Probably can't hit it opening weekend, but it is definitely on the list. Looks hilarious. I'm also going to see Markie Mark and Will Ferrell in Daddy's Home. I realize a lot of folks run cold on Ferrell, but I usually like his stuff and this one looks to provide some real laughs. Joy is also on the list.
And the new Star Wars as well. Ordering my Darth Vader mask to flip out my step grandson.

Saw Bridge of Spies. Very solid historical movie. I probably prefer this kind of movie to the big fantasy production but I'm gonna take some kids to see Star Wars this weekend. Hopefully in English.
Along with The Force Awakens, which I just saw a couple hours ago, a couple others I've seen in the last week.
1. Steve Jobs: I thought it was really well done and well-structured around the three product launches. Fassbender was outstanding. Seth Rogen, Jeff Daniels and Kate Winslet all provided solid supporting work.
2. Concussion: A very important movie, but it felt like it ultimately held some punches back. Still, Will Smith was impressive and it's very well-directed. The scenes with David Morse playing Mike Webster are arresting and emotional.
Looking forward to seeing The Revenant and Spotlight next.

Tremendous movie. Given the subject matter, it would have been easy to go over the top, but Spotlight is a great example of solid story-telling without resorting to cheap tricks.
Watched Spotlight last night. It was indeed terrific. A great journalism movie. I thought it hit all the right tones. Mark Ruffalo, Michael Keaton, etc. were all strong in their parts.
Loved The Revenant. It had that authenticity feel to it that made me think of Apocalypto and Passion of the Christ, but with that Malick transparent skin with the shadow of things swimming underneath (it did Malick far better than Malick normally does). And a bit of Cormac McCarthy sprinkled on top (or bottom).

Malick hasn't done anything great since Tree of Life. To the Wonder was beautiful visually but meh.
BTW, Lubezki has been the cinematographer for Malick and Innaritu, which is why it looks similar.

Very good movie that showed up on a lot of top ten lists. A couple of my friends didn't want to see it because of the pedophilia angle, but I told them it's a story about journalism that was more about how a newsroom works, especially with a controversial story, as opposed to what is being covered. The cast was all fantastic. I've been a bit surprised that there hasn't been more buzz about Liev Schreiber's supporting role. I thought he was fantastic. Keaton, Ruffalo, McAdams, and Bryan James were all great. One of the best examples of solid and balanced ensemble acting I've ever seen.
The Revenant tonight.
The Revenant was awesome, and I don't see how Leo could possibly be denied this year. He really laid it out on the line. And The Big Short was pretty good too. Those two and Spotlight would make up my top three of the year as of right now.
