For those with Netflix, The Meyerowitz Stories is definitely worth the watch. Noah Baumbach wrote, directed, and produced and the cast (Sandler, Stiller, Dustin Hoffman, Emma Thompson, and Elizabeth Marvel) is awesome.

I didn't like it all. Though the acting was great, I thought the story was bland and it moved way too slow.

I don't know: that's why I wanted to, you know, actually make it to one of the screenings. But, as a big Harry Dean Stanton fan (Paris, Texas and Wild at Heart being two of my favorite), I can't imagine it isn't good, if not great.

Weird coincidence, indeed. I liked Logan, but I'd have to think Lucky is still better. I haven't seen Logan Lucky—it looked ****ty to me in trailer form; but hell, what do I know—it carries good reviews on Rotten Tomatoes, and it's Soderbergh (who I sometimes like).

Just got out of Only the Brave. Wow what a gut punch.

Phenomenal filmmaking. Too bad it’s not doing well at box office. Teller and Brolin deserve Oscar nods for it.

Highly recommend. Had no expectations going in. Easily one of the best movies of the year.

I used to live pretty close to Yarnell, on the other side of Prescott. Beautiful area, but the town still hasn't recovered from the fire.

Excited for Thor this week - I've seen several reviews stating it is the best Marvel film yet

While I enjoyed the Thor movie, I can’t see how on earth it got a 90% RT score. It also seems lIke Marvel’s goal for each movie is to stuff as many one-liners in as possible. Some are funny but a lot are just downright cringeworthy.

Seems like it’s a comedy movie over any other genre.

You have to accept it for what it is and if you do, you probably won't be disappointed. Lots of action. Lots of laughs. It has a lightness that most Marvel Universe movies lack. If you go in looking for Logan, you will be disappointed. All that said, it ends with a message of sorts.

I imagine that the next couple of movies - Black Panther and Infinity War - will have a more serious tone.

Disney is rumored to be buying fox studios. That would bring X-men, fantastic four, Deadpool etc over to Disney.

    That will be massive

That is way too many hats in one ring. Plus it would be much more likely that they'd buy Sony,

Sony did discuss selling their movie and tv division.

They have totally bombed with Only the Brave and Blade Runner financially. Spider-Man was the first hit they’ve had in a while.

Fox is surprising to me. Their X movies have done well the last few years. They did have bad luck with Apes this year not doing well, as well as Alien Covenant bombing.

Apes did fine. I think it was Alien and more significantly Assassin's Creed.

    Lol no.

Apes bombed. And I loved that movie. Apes did 146 mill domestic on a 150 budget. The golden rule in Hollywood for blockbusters is you multiply the production budgetx1.5 to get a true idea. The extra money spent on marketing is what doesn’t get added in the production budget. Apes needed at least 250-275 domestic to break even. 300 domestic to make a profit.

Dawn did much better worldwide and domestically. War did not do well for FOX’s projections. Not sure who the idiot was that put it in between Wonder Woman, Spidey, and Dunkirk. It should have been in August when the schedule was thin.

Blade Runner 2049 made 85 mill domestic on a 150 million budget. It needed 250-300 just to make a profit. It’s at 240 worldwide but it’s misleading. Studios don’t get as big of a cut on international box office.

Alcon may go under after BR risk. Sony invested a lot in that and Dark Tower and both did not meet expectations.

Bladerunner's moneymaking expectations is a classic example of people misreading the vocal minority. Twitter/Reddit hype isn't the same as getting mom and pops to the theater. I love Blade Runner. It was fantastic, it was high Sci-fi on a huge budget which almost never happens. It was truly a visual spectacle and in my opinion it was one of the better films this year.
