    Thanksgiving Weekend Triple Header.

Allied: Very good. Highly recommend it.
Rules Don't Apply: Not what I expected. I thought it would be merely a light-hearted romp from the previews, but it's a lot deeper than that. Not for everyone. Mrs. 50# liked it more than I did.
Bad Santa 2: Guilty pleasure. Not nearly as good as Bad Santa, but Billy Bob is as great as ever.

I'm predicting a best actor Oscar nomination for Casey Affleck for his work in Manchester by the Sea. The movie revolves around his character and he is clearly up to the script. Nice little movie with a solid cast.

Always find it funny when excessive and/or poorly-construed advertising takes a film I want to see and makes me not want to see it anymore. Case in point: Passengers. I like Pratt, Lawrence, and (especially, thanks to turns in Frost/Nixon and 30 Rock) Michael Sheen; plus it looked like a sleekly directed mash-up of 2001/Solaris-type sci-fi and (pretty explicitly) The Shining-like psychological creepiness. But after three or four days of utterly relentless adverts, I am entirely turned off to the project—especially since the trailers have taken such pains to play up the romcom angle.

Usually when a trailer resorts to having to tease a sex scene I know the movie is going to be bad.

ive always felt Lawrence was overrated. I really hate her after the way she's mailed in her X-Men appearances.

I also feel Hollywood keeps pushing Pratt to be a star but he really is a one dimensional actor.

Oh and while I love sci-fi stuff like this it looks horrible. I loved the concept.

Pandorum is one of my favorite space horror movies.

I'll watch this movie when it's out for download but it's getting poor reviews. Re: Pratt. I've liked him since Parks and Rec but really the type of character he plays best is that guy or his role in GOTG. He was meh in Jurassic World and Magnificent 7.

He was really good in the Magnificent 7, but he played a similar role as Star Lord to be blunt.

I didn't think he was anything special. But I guess that's more because the movie as a whole was meh. I know they tried to sell the movie with him and Denzel but I thought it was ok at best. I expect more out of Denzel movies to be honest.

Pratt is a star, but he is one dimensional. Not everyone has to be Christian Bale. Hell look at almost every single big star in the 80s, Arnold, Sly, Willis, etc. they're all extremely one dimensional.

    Yes those were different times.

We already have guys who do what Pratt does and does it better (RDJ and Paul Rudd for one)

In all honesty Pratt is similar to Finn from TFA in that I find them to be over the top and try to force their humor.

Hes the default leader of GOTG but honestly Rocket Drax and even Groot were more interesting and entertaining.

Disagree on Willis. He has three dimensions: straight action; sci-fi action; buddy-comedy action. Range, my friend: range.

(Actually he was excellent, and showed good range, in Moonrise Kingdom, in a role at least somewhat removed from his usual milieu.)
