I don't think Spiderman was bad at all. Nothing great by any means but it was your typical MCU film. They rarely put out a bad a product but they are what they are at this point.
If you liked the original Matrix then I wouldn't watch this one. I liked the initial idea of what happened to Neo but the movie was really bad.
I agree with Zito here. MCU and superhero movies in general have replaced the action movies of the 80's and 90's. Popcorn films that make a lot of money but usually not a lot of substance. They are made for mass appeal and usually work. It is the Michael Bay's of the world that are getting the short end of the stick here.
But they do it much better than a traditional blockbuster.
I love Denis Villeneuve. I love Christopher Nolan. I love Rian Johnson. I love these more auteur directors that can pop out blockbusters.
I don't disagree with many of the critiques of the MCU. But look at old blockbusters.
Also James Cameron shouldn't be talking **** about other people's films. I don't know if he is. But he shouldn't be talking **** if he is.
MCU films aren't all more or less the same and they can be broken down into specific eras.
Early MCU films were basically all action heavy pew pew films. The first change happened when the Russo's directed Winter Soldier where you actually got the first change. The next change was in Guardians where you saw the ability for a comedy driven MCU film with even more CG usage. That format dominated for a long time. Then you got Black Panther which just blew the lid off the MCU adding more topical edge to the films.
Where the MCU succeeds or fails ultimately seems to be villains.

Spider-Man was ok. Not good. Dr Strange being drug into it made it super wierd. I also found it sad, and I don’t go to the movies to be sad

It was very good. The writing was a little off at times but overall it was fantastic.

Spiderman's life is sad though. This borrows heavily from the Brand New Day storyline where everyone forgets Spiderman is Peter Parker following Civil War
Both AMC and regal have first month free if you sign up for three months of unlimited. $36 for unlimited movies for 90 days is rather tempting

Lol. Spiderman was amazing. It's the 6th highest grossing movie of all time and likely would have been the highest grossing movie of all time if it were actually released in China.
Maybe you don't like this genre of films. That's fine. But it absolutely was not a bad film.
Saw the Batman it is solid. It's very long. It's got some stuff that could have been edited down, but it did well. I think pattinson did a good job. Paul Dano was brilliant, honestly wish we got more of him but I know why we didn't. It kept him much more scary.
Honestly it could have been better, but ti was good. I probably won't watch it again, it is very good just so long.

One of the things I miss most about living near civilization was seeing movies. Right now my local (still 20 minute drive) theater has Fantastic Beasts, Sonic 2, The Bad Guys and The Lost City. Thankfully another theater not much farther seems to be getting it next week. If that's the case may make a double feature day witht that and Doctor Strange.

"Nope" is a fun little matinee. Early returns put it in last place in Peele's oeuvre, but I run counter to the critics concerning Peele and preferred this to "Get Out" and I'm one of the odd ones who thinks "Us" is his best movie. "Nope" provides a nice twist on the alien invasion theme. The Steve Yuen subplot really doesn't work that well, but overall, it's a good piece of work.
Not much info here. But I'm hyped for this film. The cast is stacked. It's Nolan trying to show up after all the flack from Tenet including his war with Warners. But seriously, Cillian Murphy, Emily Blunt, Matt Damon, Robert Downey Jr, Florence Pugh, Rami Malek, Josh Hartnett, Jack Quaid, Matthew Modine, Kenneth Branagh, James Darcy, Casey Affleck, Gary Oldman, and more. Like it's stacked. This could be a let down, but I'm going to drive to boston to see it in 70mm IMAX.

Glass onion was extremely “fine.” I wish I hadn’t heard how great it was; I kept waiting for something less obvious to happen.
I thoroughly enjoyed glass onion. It isn't as great as the OG IMO. Maybe my opinion will change but I think it was done well. I think it's exploration into character was as fun as the original, I just think it was less believable which hurt it's value. and I feel like it was hurt a bit with a bit of chekhov's gun as neither the other house guest or Ethan Hawks characters paid off.
