What are the odds that Bob Dylan gets the Nobel Prize the same year that William Zantzinger gets the Republican nomination for president?

Well, by this time I was fed up
At tryin’ to make a stab
    At bringin’ back any help
For my friends and Captain Arab
I decided to flip a coin
    Like either heads or tails
Would let me know if I should go
Back to ship or back to jail
So I hocked my sailor suit
And I got a coin to flip
    It came up tails
    It rhymed with sails
So I made it back to the ship.

Absolutely. It's a perfect album, imo, but that is also because of my age. I was too young when his earlier stuff was more popular. He has said about this album that he can't believe people like it because of how much raw pain is in it. Apparently it isn't one he likes to recall, probably because it's too honest and undisguised.

I especially like the imagery. He had been studying art with a teacher for a while before it came out and I think the lyrics are especially visual.

Seems peoples favorite Dylan album is the one where they found Dylan.
Most often there was a line or a song that defined their state of mind at the time.

Never was a Shakespearean but would think that experience similar

For me it was Freewheelin'. An older relative brought it home and played it over and over.
" lone ranger and tonto headin' down the line
    fixin' everybody's troubles
    everybody's cept mine
musta heard I was doin' alright "

" lit a cigarette on a parking meter
and walked on down the road
it was a normal day ..."

    "oxford town oxford town "

I didnt know what that was about --

    Oxford Town around the bend
He come in to the door, he couldn’t get in
All because of the color of his skin
What do you think about that, my friend?

    .....

Freewheelin' to me is like comfort food.

    Reminds me of Whitman.

Lay down your weary tune, lay down

Lay down the song you strum

And rest yourself ’neath the strength of strings

No voice can hope to hum

Struck by the sounds before the sun

I knew the night had gone

The morning breeze like a bugle blew

    Against the drums of dawn

Lay down your weary tune, lay down

Lay down the song you strum

And rest yourself ’neath the strength of strings

No voice can hope to hum

The ocean wild like an organ played

    The seaweed’s wove its strands

The crashin’ waves like cymbals clashed

    Against the rocks and sands

Lay down your weary tune, lay down

Lay down the song you strum

And rest yourself ’neath the strength of strings

No voice can hope to hum

I stood unwound beneath the skies

    And clouds unbound by laws

The cryin’ rain like a trumpet sang

    And asked for no applause

Lay down your weary tune, lay down

Lay down the song you strum

And rest yourself ’neath the strength of strings

No voice can hope to hum

The last of leaves fell from the trees

And clung to a new love’s breast

The branches bare like a banjo played

To the winds that listened best

I gazed down in the river’s mirror

    And watched its winding strum

The water smooth ran like a hymn

And like a harp did hum

Lay down your weary tune, lay down

Lay down the song you strum

And rest yourself ’neath the strength of strings

No voice can hope to hum
