On that topic, I think there's a pretty good chance that the transition and early months of the administration are going to be a ****show. No guarantee, of course, but it's not exactly a promising start.

In one week they've canned their transition director and scrapped a bunch of his people and lost several days because they didn't get legal clearance for their new transition director to start work.

Rudy Giuliani's client list would give pause to an intellectually honest critic of the Clinton Foundation. Loyalty has already started to, er, trump principle when it comes to employing people who have lobbied for foreign governments. There seems to be reticence on the part of mainstream career professionals to hitch themselves to the Trump wagon until they see who is going to be running things at the various agencies. It's going to be interesting to watch.

If Trump doesn't appoint any Reps from outside his small group of political supporters what will the GOP do? Fall in line like good soldiers for their new leader or go to war against him?

    The Civil War is beginning.

Didn't the times send out an apology to its users for its slanted coverage of the election?

Not exactly. They just said that they underestimated Trump and 'rededicated' themselves to proper journalism.

It wasn't so much an apology as it was a statement where they said they would "rededicate" themselves to blah blah blah. There wasn't any explicit apology.

COLUMBIA -- Lt. Gov. Henry McMaster told The Post and Courier on Wednesday that he and Gov. Nikki Haley are being considered for cabinet positions in the administration of President-elect Donald Trump.

McMaster said Haley is being considered for several cabinet posts including secretary of state. McMaster, one of Trump’s earliest statewide political endorsers, said the daughter of Indian immigrants could provide a fresh set of eyes of foreign affairs.

He said the Trump campaign is looking at him as attorney general, and that he has been speaking with the transition team.

    ---

Joe Scarborough also reported about an hour ago that Haley is being considered.

A cabinet post might be smart for Haley, since she's term limited out of the statehouse and is clearly interested in (and being groomed for) bigger things. State is a big reach.

I imagine McMaster will be rewarded for his early support.

    Not a Nikki Haley fan.

I'll admit that her second term has been superb as far as optics are concerned (Confederate flag, Emanuel AME, response to Trump, anti-immigration stance, handling of transgender bathroom issue, Hurricane Matthew) but I'll never forget her multiple first-term missteps including the "Little Girl" saga (which arose from her spending $200K in taxpayer dollars to stay at the Ritz-Carlton during the Paris Air Show) and the Savannah Port/donor brouhaha. Then there's the fact that the SC education system still sucks an incomprehensibly major Dickey, and most of the economic growth the state has seen is mostly attributable to Sanford's fiscal masterwork and his courting of Boeing.

Of course, there's the whole affair thing too.

As far as Secretary of State is concerned she's just not remotely qualified. Ironically, I think she would have an easier path to confirmation (in the Senatorial sense and in the court of public opinion) than Giuliani though.

I wouldn't count myself as the biggest Newt fan on the planet but am I the only one who thinks he'd be a pretty decent choice for that position? I also don't really care for, but don't hate Bolton (he's a gruff abrasive ahole but then he is in Washington) and even Chris Christie wouldn't be a horrible choice for a decent cabinet position. I don't think I'd even want Rudy in charge of checking out mine fields to see if all the mines have been cleared, though to be honest I am intrigued by the possibility. ;)

Also, is it true that Ben Carson turned down Trump for head of the HHS?

Certainly makes sense. AG seems a bit of a reach, but it's worth mentioning his work on Operation Jackpot amidst Reagan's drug war and how that might tie-in with Trump's interest in cracking down on heroin. That was in the 80s though, and you also have to wonder if McMaster isn't just a bit ... dated.

The best way to crack down on heroin use in this country would be to crack down on the vast over-prescription of pharmaceutical opiates.

Addressing opioid addiction would arguably the best way to prove that the attention paid to Appalachia and the Rust Belt in this election cycle is more than crocodile tears.

Now might be a good time to mention that Noun-Verb-9/11 lobbied the Justice Department on behalf of Purdue Pharma to lessen sanctions placed upon them for letting Oxycontin wander off their facilities and onto the black market.
