I wonder what the narrative will be if NK is disarmed.
Natural Immunity Croc
If their history is any indicator NK will not be disarmed peacefully.
Going back 66 years of hostility and paranoia

and you Hawk, under 40 ?

I am under 40 but being alive during a historical event is not a precursor to discussing it. If that were the case I'd like to hear you stop talking about attitudes pre 1950 in this country have negatively impacted minorities. Now that that is settled lets continue:
our response to NK for decades has been less than heavy handed. There is good and there is evil in this world. It doesn't take long to realize that. In those situations where evil becomes too powerful it must be deal with in absolute terms. They cannot be reasoned with because their perception of right and wrong differs so vastly from the rest of the world. NK should have been deal with in more absolute terms for a long time now. Its unfortunate that it will be deal with now that they actually have the power to inflict major catastrophe.
There is no viable option for the future that results in this dynasty to continue. It is just kicking the can further down the road again for our children to deal with it.

I don't believe NK's army will fight an inspired fight to begin with. Its a slave nation and once the people get the feeling that freedom is close they will turn on Kim.
The main issue is Seoul obviously and how much death and destruction they will have to endure. Hate to say greater good but in this case I do believe it.
Natural Immunity Croc
now where have I heard that before !!!!
Projections are if we do go to war with NKorea 50-50 a land fight. 1-10 nuclear.
Checking around the globe, we have increased troops in Afghanistan to protect a pipeline -- still a few in Iraq/Syria guiding a civil war. Threats against Iran.
Guessing here our military is spread rather thin. Which leaves Eric Prince to direct our military -- is that what everyone sees?
and how many volunteers or mercenaries are there ?
Should we have war with N Korea it is highly probable China gets involved.
Where besides a draft do we find bodies to fight China
Who here will fight for Trump ? At that point he is no longer an abstract leader but your commander in battle.
After the past two weeks in PR -- do you have that much faith in Trump the commander in chief ?
Who here enlists ?

How can any secretary of state do the job if the president publicly says, don't bother?

Seoul is a major concern. The US recently installed a missile defense system (THAAD) in several areas on the outskirts of the metro area that might serve as some measure of protection, but the North Koreans have a **** ton of traditional weaponry on DMZ that there's probably no way of neutralizing unless the US carpet-bombed the entire 38th parallel. But, even still, that's ~10 million people in Seoul who could be dead in something like ~30 minutes as a result of a conventional artillery bombardment.
My guess is that the North Korean chain of command could be folded up in rather short order. Then you are going to have a bunch of underarmed, undertrained, and malnourished NK soldiers fleeing toward the border with China (along with ~25 million other displaced North Korean citizens).
The issue is not so much the war itself but what would happen with North Korea afterwards. That would require boots on the ground (or some sort of peacekeeping force) and it would also likely require Chinese (and maybe Russian) consent.
If you earnestly believe that this country is 'divided' by racial strife pinpointed by kneeling during the national anthem (at a pro football game) then just wait until you see the division that would erupt if the draft were re-established.
Ain't gonna happen.

hope you're right.
I trust you could handle yourself Hawk -- but I'd worry about thethe.
Have to admit though, the thought of Sturg charging into battle dressed in khakis and brandishing a TikiTorch does give me a chuckle
Let's just hope it never comes to that
