If Russia or China or North Korea or Iran stop pursuing weapons or making more of them while we give ours up, do you honestly think they will not take advantage of it? We've got more than enough to survive a first strike by the Russians and no other power on the planet has an arsenal that would do anything more than inflict relatively isolated and singular damage (read relatively as amply destructive but not crippling to our operations). When I studied this stuff back in the early-1980s, the Russians had more warheads, but the accuracy of their missiles lagged greatly behind our capabilities. I would imagine accuracy has improved on both sides of the Atlantic, but that's really beside the point. If there's a nuclear war, we're all f*cked.
