It's continually amusing, though a little troubling, that you spell such big and loud opinions, yet seem to know so little about so much.
What the **** are you even talking about. You consistently come to the table with no data.

Big government is liberal. Both Republicans and Democrats support it.bi don't support either of those parties

I didn't vote for Mitt Romney almost entirely due to his leftist big government health care scheme in Massachusetts

This might be the bottom of the barrel trying to argue Obama was an economic centrist

It's really puzzling that sturg and thethe associate ANY government spending with "leftist economic policy."

Sturg, you specifically mentioned bailouts and stimulus.

In the context of the housing crash and credit crisis, who initiated the was bailouts, and who were primarily campaigning for them? "Economic leftists?" The hell. Leftists were trying to get bank CEOs arrested, not keeping their bonuses.

Simple question. Is increased government size leftist in nature?

The federal governments primaey responsibility is to protect the people from foreign invasion. Therefore, I don't consider military spending the same big government as regulation on the private sector.

Bush's Medicare part D is a good example of federal spending on a social program that was neither liked nor supported by either liberals or leftists.

Look at government spending for the last couple of decades, remind yourself who controlled the WH and Congress, and get back to me.

Whether or not you liked it is irrelevant. The point that you seem unwilling to contend with is that ACA used public funds to subsidize, and fines to incentivize, buying private insurance. Like I said, it was conceived as a conservative think tank solution to expanding healthcare coverage. It's left of what YOU prefer, but it's not leftist. A robust public option would be closer to the mark. So-called Medicare-for-all closer still. The ACA barely registers. It was a squishy compromise to keep the AMA, the insurers, pharma, and other stakeholders on board. That alone should clue you that it bore no resemblance to leftist policy. It was merely policy that you didn't like. But you're the extremist here, having staked out a position that taxation is theft and any government spending amounts to Marxism.

Obama governed essentially as a center-left technocrat. He was closer to Bush--either Bush--than to any actual leftist.

But let's get back to tax increases. Reagan and Bush 41 increased taxes several times...in a lot of different places, after the big, early Reagan tax cuts. Adjust those increases to constant dollars, compare them to the ACA tax hikes, and tell me what you see. Were Reagan and Bush "economic leftists"?

PS...just take the L on comparing anything meaningful based on raw dollars. It was a significant tax increase. Got it. But it was in no meaningful way the largest tax increase in history. If we play by your rules, we're comparing a smaller population with an average household income of <$8000 to current times. It's weak sauce.

Expansion of government control of economic policies is a leftist position. A conservative position is the government should have less control. A liberal position is more control. Obama decisively moved us more to the left on just about everything (and Trump is as well in certain areas)

I'm not taking a loss on anything when it was I who pointed out first that it was raw dollars. I acknowledged that right away. If you adjust for. Inflation its the 4th largest tax increase ever.

Well i guess that settles it then, Obama didn't significantly raise taxes.

But we all know that isn't our military's #1 goal, or at least their #1A. It should be, mind you, but it really isn't. Ask KBR if you don't believe me.
