Numbers should improve coming out of the AL.

As an aside, who catches him?

I understand the signing. Dickey is a steady veteran and innings eater. From 2013-2015 he averaged just about 6 and a half innings per start. This year he averaged 5.84 IP per start. You can pretty much count on him taking the ball every 5th day and giving you about 6 innings. That has a good bit of value.

Also, getting out of the AL will drop his ERA a bit. His biggest weakness is, like a lot of knuckleballers, the HR ball so getting him out of Toronto will help even more.

Dickey isn't going to suddenly be his Cy Young self again but his ability to reliably take the mound and give you innings will help this club. He's a good option to fill innings while we wait for our prospects to show us they're ready.

Recker was in New York before he was traded to the Jays IIRC.
Has there EVER been a statement and question a certain someone should absolutely never have made and asked publicly more than...

Kinda pathetic to see yourself as a message board knight in shining armor. How impotent does someone have to be in real life to resort to playing hero on a message board?

It's a "meh" move but it's not a terrible one, either (depending on price). I 'm assuming he signed for $6-8M for one year which isn't prohibitive and he is likely to give us 180+ mediocre to potentially slightly above mediocre which has some value.

I am fine with the signing. but I don't think he will be around all year. He is 42 and declining. I just don't see him getting better just by going to the NL. He is just too old.. But again, I doubt the $$ is too much and he can be released if not performing. Hell maybe we get '82 Niekro and he pitches 200+ innings with a 3.5 ERA (Phil was 43 I think)...

As a knuckle baller, you never know what to expect. He could just as easily throw 200+ innings with a 3.00 ERA, or he could have an ERA closer to 5.00. His age shouldn't really be of much concern. I lIke this signing quite a bit.

Really like this move. Very durable for a guy in this 40s. Well-regarded in the clubhouse for a team that was seeking some leadership in the rotation. Has outperformed his FIP by about a half run since he's been a knuckleballer. We're getting a ~2 WAR pitcher on a 1-year free agent deal. This is very good work by the FO. More like this please.

Just an amazing signing! The news is awesome right now. First Collmenter and now Robert Allen Dickey! This front office is winning me over with these great moves!
