What, you don't like the Apple Barn?

Gatlinburg has its charms, but much like Myrtle Beach - infinitely better in the offseason.

My family used to spend the week before Christmas at a friend's cabin near Ski Mountain. It has burned, and apparently most of the cabins in the area have too.

    Very sad.

A friend's condo burned down. My family's cabin isn't in danger...yet. Lots of friends in the area are really hurting. And if you don't care for the town or area or people how about keeping it to yourself for awhile. Thanks.

Hope everyone is OK. Stuff can be replaced. I know that doesn't really make it any better but it's still better than the alternative.

3 human fatalities thus far. No telling yet about the wildlife. The area has a place in my heart - I spend as much time as I can hiking the trails of the Smokies.

Gatlinburg was my favorite vacation spot when I was a kid, pre-teens. There was always an Indian by the side of the road who'd pose for pictures with you. My mother says I used to call him Chief Nakahoma.

I live 2 hours south. Visit Pigeon Forge at least once a year with family, but haven't been to Gatlinburg in a awhile.

Quite sad indeed. I know people directly affected by this.
