We played the game with the #3 pick.

Right, but that was the main motivation for some to get the #1 pick for next year. More money to play with.

I was pretty confident the service time rule would change. The MLBPA made a big stink about the Kris Bryant situation and I figured that would be something they would fight hard about.

You don't talk in absolutes about things that have a lot of uncertainty attached to them. Unlike some around here.

That was my only reason for wanting a high draft pick for next year. To have such a huge advantage in slot money. Those changes would have ticked me off if we had the #1 pick. I almost wonder if that would change a teams mindset about losing that 2nd or 3rd pick in a shallow draft. I mean losing the #40th pick is not as hurtful if your money is spread out more evenly and the talent pool is short of flat like last years.

Looks like braves spending limits still in affect for international FA next July.

And the July after that, it looks like. This is from Jeff Passan's article:

"There will be no amnesty for teams with existing international-spending penalties. Following their spree this year, the Padres will not be allowed to spend more than $300,000 on an individual international player for the next two seasons. They can, however, still trade as much of their international money as they’d like to potentially recoup value there."

It seems fair, but was definitely hoping we'd get lucky here. So if I'm remembering right, the old system put teams in the penalty box for two years and we'll only be in the penalty box one year?

Also, saw for the first time this morning that teams can now trade all of their international bonus slot allotments, and can acquire up to 75% more than their initial total allotment. Now that the hard cap is in place, the trade value of international bonus slots should increase.

We should trade some of that international money to teams that are not restricted.

Yeah, was thinking the same. Though I don't know if any of these changes will take effect until the 2018-2019 signing period. I'm embarrassed to admit that I'm actually looking forward to reading the detailed CBA doc when it leaks online.

Another All-Star game nugget from this new deal, in addition to the stupid homefield advantage rule going away.

Managers will no longer select reserves...commissioner's office will.

    Hmm.

Braves have a bonus pool of 4.75 million for the next international singing period and will be in year 1 of the penalty box for what they did this signing period. Will not be able to sign a player for more than 300K. Seems the bonus pool money can't be traded until the actual signing period beings which is July 2nd.

Not exactly a surprise, but the comp picks for the 2017 draft were announced today and we didn't get any.
