    1939: "Wee" Willie Keller, George Sisler, and Eddie Collins are elected to the inaugural Hall of Fame class.

    1973: Warren Spahn is elected to the Hall of Fame.

    1980: Book publisher Doubleday and Company purchase controlling interest in the Mets with Fred Wilpon and a group from City Investing becoming minority owners.

    1943: The Braves purchase future Hall of Fame pitcher Lefty Gomez from the Yankees for $10,000.

    1945: Dan Topping, Del Webb, and Larry MacPhail purchase the Yankees for $2.8 million.

    1949: Lou Boudreau signs a two year deal worth $65,000 to remain the Indians player/manager.

    1999: The A's sign Tim Raines.

    2005: The Marlins and Carlos Delgado agree to a four year deal worth $52 million.

    2006: The A's sign Frank Thomas to a one year deal.

    2007: Willie Randolph signs a three year deal to be the Mets manager.

    2008: The Twins sign Joe Mauer to a six year deal worth $80 million and Michael Cuddyer to a three year contract worth $24 million.

    1944: Lou Perini, Guido Rugo, and Joe Maney gain controlling interest of the Braves. The group immediately relieves manager Casey Stengel of his duties.

    1949: Fred Saigh gains 90% controlling interest in the Cardinals.

    1982: The Cubs trade Ivan DeJesus to the Phillies for Larry Bowa and minor league prospect Ryne Sandberg.

    1997: The Red Sox trade Jose Canseco to the A's for John Wasdin and cash.

    2009: The Rockies and Ubaldo Jimenez agree to a four year deal worth $10 million.

    2015: The Marlins sign Ichiro Suzuki to a one year deal.

    1958: Dodgers catcher Roy Campanella is involved in a car wreck, causing him to be paralyzed for the rest of his life.

    2008: The Rays and James Shields agree to a four year deal worth $11.25 million.

    1936: Babe Ruth, Ty Cobb, Christy Mathewson, Walter Johnson, and Honus Wagner are elected as the first Hall of Fame class.

    1958: Stan Musial signs a $100,000 deal with the Cardinals, the first six-figure contract in ML history.

    1967: The Veterans Committee elects Branch Rickey to the Hall of Fame.

    1981: Jerry Reinsdorf and Eddie Einhorn purchase the White Sox from the group led by Bill Veeck.

    1988: The Dodgers sign Kirk Gibson to a three year deal.

    1995: Playing for the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl XXIX, Deion Sanders becomes the first to play in a Super Bowl and World Series. Sanders was part of the Atlanta Braves in 1992 that made the World Series.

    2002: The Astros sign Lance Berkman to a three year deal worth $10.5 million.

    2006: The Padres and Mike Piazza agree to a one year deal.

    2008: The Twins trade Johan Santana to the Mets for prospects Philip Humber, Kevin Mulvey, Deolis Guerra, and Carlos Gomez.

    2008: Baseball announces the June 16th game in Cooperstown between the Cubs and Padres will be the final Hall of Fame Game.

    1919: The Reds hire Pat Moran as their new manager. They were unable to make contact with manager Christy Mathewson, who was in France, serving with the Army during World War I.

    1958: Commissioner Ford Frick announces the fans will no longer have a part in All-Star voting. Players and coaches will start picking the teams.

    1987: The Cubs trade Ron Cey to the A's for Luis Quinones.

    2012: The Rangers sign manager Ron Washington to a two year extension.

    1919: Jackie Robinson is born in Cairo, Georgia.

    1931: Hall of Famer Ernie Banks is born in Dallas, Texas.

    1947: Hall of Famer Nolan Ryan is born in Refugio, Texas.

    1959: Joe Cronin becomes AL President.

    1961: Voters in Houston approve financing for the building of what would become the Astrodome.

    1980: The Astros sign Joe Morgan.

    2000: Braves relief pitcher John Rocker is suspended by Commissioner Bud Selig until May 1st due to insensitive racial comments he made in a Sports Illustrated article.

    2013: The Diamondbacks sign Martin Prado to a four year deal worth $40 million. Prado had been recently acquired by the team in a deal with the Braves for Justin Upton and Chris Johnson.
