    I'd take Allard over Judge.

I'm not a big Judge fan, and I probably would as well, but he'll be ranked above Allard.

And our depth blows them away after that.
Absolutely. But we've all talked about it before. Some evaluators look at top-flight players over depth.

I'm just saying, even if you put more weight on the top players in the system (I think everyone basically does this), I still don't see any way the Yankees have such a clear advantage there that it outweighs the rest of the system.

And when people talk about minor league depth, there are two kinds: depth of decent prospects who are never going to be more than utility guys or spot starters, and depth of guys with the potential to eventually be top prospects themselves. We have the latter.

Adding in a top 5 pick this year in a good draft class will put us even more ahead of the rest.

It will, but the Padres draft 3rd, so they'll improve some more, too. White Sox draft 11th, so they'll add another good talent as well.

Plus we could graduate Swanson, albies, Newcombe Ruiz ...

Yeah, luckily enough, I could careless about them leaving our "system," because they'll hopefully just be big-league ballers.

Agree. IMO I like when they do the ranking of talent under 25 vs prospects. I'd rather have a 22 yo killing it at MLB then in AA (duh).

My comment was in the context of us separating more from other systems. We are about to go into a big graduation period and a lot lower picks. Hopefully we have high picks this year and can flip some more of these old , expensive pitchers b/c guys like Newcombe step up.

That's why I hope Coppy can trade for a comp pick. We are getting to the point where we won't be getting these high picks anymore.

Dropping Janas (released), still puzzled and hurt that he wasn't even allowed to compete for a bullpen job this year. Hoping to hear any day he's caught on somewhere.

Now factor in that we will probably draft someone mlb.com ranks in the teens or twenties.

I value potential to be a top player in mlb a lot more than potential to be top prospects.

And who has the best potential to be top players in MLB? Top prospects. We want the same thing.

Getting top MLB players is a tough thing. One way to do it is to get top prospects. Getting top prospects is a tough thing, though a little easier than getting top MLB players. One way to get top prospects is to get lower-rated prospects who, because of age, injury, or some other reason, have real potential to become top prospects themselves. Getting those prospects is not an extremely easy thing, but is easier still than getting top prospects.

We have current top prospects, guys who are currently very good prospects with real opportunity on the horizon to become top prospects, and even some guys who aren't rated extremely high right now with potential themselves to become top prospects down the road.

So what are you complaining about again?

I think Janas is ultimately caught in that unfortunate situation of not being able to start, but not having the profile to be effective in relief in the bigs.

Anyone see this floating around twitter:

    @Zach_Dillard
learned today from Coppy: another club offered top int'l talent Kevin Maitan ~$10M at the J2 deadline. Maitan signed with Atlanta at $4.25M.

Cards maybe? I know there was a team that was offering way more than the Braves to make a push at the deadline.

We got super lucky with Maitan. That dude could be the next big star.
